Phew - Joan saved me.

Wow, I almost might have needed to go to the vet today. I was happy as a clam, lounging in the sun in the backyard (it was 60 degrees today in March in Minneapolis!!!) Since most of the snow has melted away, I found myself a good stick and started munching on it. The next thing I knew, it broke and I had a piece of stick lodged in the roof of my mouth between my either side of my teeth. OUCHHHH!
Lucky for me, since I learned to escape from the yard, Joan keeps a pretty watchful eye on me when I'm outside. She must have seen me kind of staggering around with sad eyes because she came outside and called to me to come. I walked slowly up to her, and then I willingly opened my mouth when she put her fingers in to pry my mouth open. To her surprise, she saw the stick lodged in my mouth and pulled it out. What a relief! Then I nuzzled up to her because she is so nice and caring for me. She told me (again) that I should not play with sticks. It is true I've had other run-ins with sticks in the past.

The only other fun thing that happened was that I got to see Martha and Miguel, Joan's friends, today as well as her sister, Eileen, who was visiting someone in Minneapolis. I love visitors, but even though I like Miguel a lot, I was a little afraid of him when he first came into the house. Well, it's off to bed for me!

Bosco, I sure hope you're feeling better now. Your misadventure with the stick reminded me of something that happened to Linus, my family's dog when I was growing up.

Linus loved to play in the backyard (which was entirely fenced so he pretended he was the ruler of it) and especially loved tossing his plastic water dish high into the air to get our attention whenever it needed filling. He got very good at it and one day the edge of it cracked from so many impacts with the ground. Then, while tossing it, he somehow managed to open the crack enough for his tongue to get pinched in that crack! So from inside the house he looked like he was tossing the bowl, it just wasn't leaving his mouth and he was yipping in pain at the same time. My Mom and I ran out there to see and while we did take the bowl off as quick as we could, the way Linus was trying to shake the bowl off his tongue made us laugh really hard. He was fine (except for being very thirsty). After that we got him a heavy ceramic bowl he couldn't toss (or crack).

Thanks for sharing something that made me think of Linus. He was a great dog.

Linus WAS the ruler of his backyard. What is this "pretending" - we, dogs, do not pretend anything. Our reality is reality!
No mind games or trickery here.
:-)

Okay, ouch. This hurts just thinking about it. Bosco, I think Joan should take you here to rest and recover: http://www.cnn.com/2005/TRAVEL/03/08/dog.bark.park.ap/index.html
