I love children and visitors.

Wow, I've had quite one weekend! Joan had lots of visitors for me to be friends with and get lots and lots of pets. First Joan's sister Eileen was in town - I remember her immediately because she is a really nice person. Then Joan's friends from grad school who live in Iowa came up for the weekend and to go to the UM-MSU hockey game - I hear they rooted for MSU but unfortunately MSU did not do well at all. But I especially loved Kaleb, the 8 year old, because he just loved to pet me! Even though I met this family in August at their house, I was still very shy of them when they first got here (as usual). I take my time getting to know people. In the end, though, I would go from one person to the next trying to coax petting out of each of them. This morning they left to go back home and then Eileen's friends who live in St. Paul came over and I got to meet 2 new people. I quickly got to liking both of them because I could tell that they had a lab at their own house so they must be good people. Plus, they petted me some more. Then they went off to breakfast.

The whole afternoon while Joan visited a friend who is very sick at the hospital and then even after she returned, I have been soooo tired because of my active weekend, so I just napped and napped and napped! If only Kaleb would come back and pet me some more then I might rise off my comfy bed.

Napkins, napkins, anyone?

Joan left me at home while she went swimming last night and then she went out afterwards and left me home too long alone (in my skewed opinion - I like her around at all times!). In any case, I got bored again and decided that the cloth napkins that were on the table smelled interesting. Joan's napkin smelled like Joan and I always like that, so I took that and brought it over to my bed. I also smelled Martha's napkin (from the dinner this weekend) and it had smells of pancetta and lamb and veges so I took that one too. Lucky for Joan, I did not rip them up or anything - I just smelled them and probably licked them and then just left them in my kingdom (the floor).
I really like to find something that Joan has last touched before leaving to bring over to my bed while she is gone. It makes me feel calmer. Often I move her shoes around. Unfortunately, sometimes it gives away where I've been hanging out - like when Joan arrives home and her running shoe is on the couch! Oops - yep I was up there sleeping and forgot to remove the "evidence". I guess I'm not that smart!

Dinner Guests

The other night my favorite people, Martha and Miguel, came over for a fantastic gourmet meal with Joan. Unfortunately for me, I could smell the very yummy appetizers Joan made - baked pancetta with goat cheese and pear - but she put them in the middle of the table so I couldn't steal any. Then she also made rack of lamb - okay, I'd be happy to dive into the lamb as well, but after Martha bit into it, she said "oh, this is the best!" As you can imagine, no one had left-overs.

But I'm still lucky because Miguel was rubbing my tummy, and I was so happy. This is why I like them so much, besides of course, that they have taken care of me on occasions when Joan has left town. I even like their cat, Boli. See the picture below of me soooo happy!!

Chocolate Adventures

Chocolate is very bad for dogs because it has a chemical much like caffeine that makes our hearts race and we essentially can have a heart attack. But in the past few months, for some reason I've been interested in chocolate - or perhaps I am just up to no good and it happens that Joan has chocolate around when I'm up to no good.

First, there was the time when Joan was painting to the door to the spice cabinet so it was gone. I was bored and decided to drag out a bag of cocoa from Joan's favorite Spice Company, Penzeys spices. So this is GOOD cocoa. Joan came home and saw that all my water was gone from my dish and knew something was up (I usually don't drink while she is gone). Then, she found it - cocoa all over the rug! The vacuum still smells like cocoa when she uses it. Anyway, she called the vet but he said that I was doing okay based on the fact that I wasn't lethargic or panting heavily. Phew! Now, Joan bought a safety fence and doesn't let me go into the kitchen when she's gone. ....but....

While her parents were here, Joan and her mom left to go shopping. They had left part of a cookie on the counter for Joan's dad who decided to stay home with me and take a nap. Well, while he was sleeping, I smelled to chocolate bar cookie and went and got it from on the counter. Then, the funny part is that when Joan and her mom returned, her dad said, "Why did you two eat my cookie?" Then, they looked at me, but I just acted innocently.

Then --- there was the day when Joan unfortunately saw evidence of foil in my dog waste. She was wondering, "what did you eat that had foil on it?" Then she remembered that she had recently unpacked some boxes (during remodel) and one had a glass dish with a couple Belgian chocolates in it. She put the dish on her bookshelf - she even saw me sniff it once. Sure enough, she came home from the walk and confirmed that the dish was empty. But the most amusing thing about it - is that she asked her mom if they had eaten the chocolates and her mom said that she saw that the chocolates were gone and the dish was about to fall off the shelf - and SHE wondered why Joan would have left the dish like that! Boy, I make everyone confused because they never expect that I would do these things.

Well, those are my chocolate adventures. I really should stop eating that stuff!
