Summer oh summer

I love summertime. I get to sit outside tons. Especially since Eileen, Joan's sister, has been staying with us...however, that has now changed. Yesterday Eileen moved all her stuff out into a big truck. Then Joan came home and helped her move furniture out of the house. At least they didn't have boxes on wheels - that's when I know Joan is leaving me for several days. phew. But now I'm sad because Joan is leaving during the day again more often and Eileen is gone, too. So I'm home alone again. Last night Joan asked if I wanted to have a dog roommate. Is she serious?
Eileen said that I'd never want to share Joan, which is true. But, on the other hand, maybe I'd get used to a new roommate. I mean I got used to Eileen but she's not a dog, though.
Well, back to squirrel alert. I need to be aware of what's going on around the backyard.

Getting Joan a date.

I'm handy to have around because I got Joan a date - well, at least she can decide if she wants to go out with the guy. But on Saturday we went for a long walk and then she got breakfast at the coffee shop. She tied me up and inside, a guy told her how pretty I am (I am so pretty, aren't I?). Anyway, then he proceeded to help her outside with her goodies (water for me) and then chatted with her. He was an okay guy, I guess, I wasn't super scared of him or anything. Then he asked Joan to go biking sometime. Well, that's not very nice because it doesn't include ME! I'm sure Joan would be mad that I'm telling her secrets but hey, this is a great advantage of having a cute dog like myself. So if you are single, you should go out now and adopt a cute dog from Animal Ark Shelter and maybe you, too, will get a date!

I have to also admit that my charms did not work on Sunday. We also went to a coffee shop and a guy with his dog sat with us at a big table, but he didn't talk with Joan or ask her out OR even comment how cute I am! I'll have to work on this "date magnetism" thing.

Yesterday, Joan wore me out. First she took me to the dog park where I ran around with lots of dogs, chasing, swimming, fetching etc. Then later that day, Joan took me running. So by last night I was just exhausted. I was napping all evening on my bed. Eileen is still around the house so I still have double access to getting pet and skin for licking. Hooray!

Animal Ark Dog Walk

bosco_animalwalk.jpg
I have been very remiss is writing on my blog - I guess so much has been happening that I haven't had time. I'll try to update you on many things. Well, as I said, Joan returned from a place called Col-o-rado where she said the elevation kicked her you know what. I don't like kicking so I bet I wouldn't like elevation. In any case, she hung around the house gardening for a week. We spent every day outside and I loved it. On Saturday the 6th, Joan drove me down to the Animal Ark where she adopted me! Thankfully, she didn't leave me there! Anyway, the drive down I was very excited because we were on a trip, so I yelped a lot. Finally, we got there and they gave me a bandana - which you can see in the picture, and Joan got a T-shirt. They had some water pools there so I learned how to step into them and then, later, after the walk I realized I could also just plop down and sit in the cool water.

Before and after the walk, they had some "pup-olympics" we could do. I did all the events. I licked peanut butter off Joan's nose in 5 seconds. I sprinted to Joan in 2.7 seconds (on a short course). I also bobbed for (hot)dogs and retrieved 4 hotdog pieces in a bowl of water in 5.8 seconds. Finally, I did poorly in the treat toss and wasn't able to catch the treat from a distance -- I guess we need to work on that one at home ;-)

The walk was great, and it was funny to see about hundred or so people walking with dogs. That's a lot of dogs and people in one group! I got along with the other dogs fine, and the best part was all the treats I got to eat there. On the way home, I was much more relaxed and just laid down in the car and rested.

Some of Joan's friends and family sponsored us (and Joan matched their contributions) - so we ended up giving Animal Ark $150. So now Animal Ark has more money to buy treats, food, and medical care for dogs like me (when I was there!).

The other thing that happened was Eileen, Joan's sister, who I like a lot returned from Madison. She had moved here before Col-o-rado but then went back to Madison and then returned on Friday before the big walk! Now I have another person in the house to lick and snuggle with. Yeah!!!!!!

But then a few days later Eileen left to drive to New Mexico (right back through Col-o-rado Joan says). She wants to move there. But now Eileen is back again!!! I guess she did not like New Mexico and drove back here on Wednesday. What a surprise! Now I'm back to double pets and double the skin to lick. Hooray!

Joan is Home

Joan came home yesterday - she was gone for 9 days and I was counting. I knew she was leaving when I saw her box on wheels come out and then I was really sad. I sat outside until midnight sulking. Joan kept coming out to see how I was but I just wanted to be left alone. The next morning Joan and her sister Eileen left very early in the morning down the street with their rolling boxes. Joan took me for a walk at 5am and it was hot even then! Later that day, Roberta came to stay with me. Phew! I like Roberta even though when I first met her I would bark at her. Eventually I decided I liked her a lot.

Roberta told Joan that I peed on the carpet, but it wasn't my fault. Roberta couldn't come home one day for 12 hours and that was too long for me! I guess that ends my 2.5 year streak of never having an accident in the house. However, I don't really count it since it was so long I had to be inside. Joan forgot to tell Roberta to ask the neighbor, Doris, to let me out in a case like that!

As soon as Joan returned yesterday, we hopped in the car and went to my park. I got to run and jump in the Mississippi and gallop with other dogs. Joan thought I smelled so today she gave me a bath (just 2 hours ago!). While she was washing me in the front of the house, Sierra, the other chocolate lab from the street behind us came by with her human. Sierra came over and gave me a kiss but I wasn't really in the mood to play since Joan had the hose on me, trying to get the water to penetrate down through my thick fur. You'd think Joan could wash me in a more private place than the front yard!

Joan promised me that she is taking this week off of work, too, (well-deserved since a few weeks ago she was only getting 3 hours sleep each night due to several deadlines!). Anyway, that makes me happy because I get to hang out with Joan this week - unless, she decides - aghast - to do something without me. For now, she's here and I like it!
