DECC Blog

To Whom It May Concern:

My name is Sara and I am a journalist student at UMD. I have a few questions that I would like someone from the city of Duluth to answer if at all possible:

1)	What is the probability that the DECC expansion will get through the state legislature this time? Is it even worth the time and effort?
2)	How much higher will the Duluth sales tax increase if the DECC expansion was a definite go?
3)	Does the hockey team care that the DECC is getting expanded?

From what I have gathered, Dan Russell, who is the executive director of the DECC said that this year because of the 6.2% inflation increase that Duluth is asking an estimated $33.7 million.

Okay, so then what? Duluth is just supposed to sit back? What do WE have to offer? Oh yah, an increase in a sales tax I would presume. I think many Duluthians will be THRILLED with that idea!

Now I have a better idea; its old fashion but it make me feel a lot better about myself: let's do some fundraising! What's wrong with that?

Even better; why don't the hockey teams raise money! I mean after all, UMD hockey is a big thing right now, especially since our women’s hockey team is amazing.

I guess I have more than three questions. But let’s be honest, the DECC expansion would create more job and recreational opportunities for Duluth and its citizens. The big question is how many more people would it take to get the DECC expansion up and running?

I guess I will do what I do best, sit back and watch everything unravel...

A Duluthian who just so happens to be a UMD student and curious about the city’s future,

                                                                                                                                           Jochems

Written by Frontline Fobbit this is an easily understandable blog that reminds me of a daily journal entry. I am particularly fond of this blog because I keep a daily journal and it is one of my favorite styles of writing. Many people don't like writing but I believe this is one of the most honest forms of writing. This is the blog of on soldier and his life in Iraq and on the frontline. The most recent blog is talking about the death of a fellow soldier and how that was traumatizing.

UMD this week

I feel very out of sorts recently. I haven't gotten any grades for any classes because I haven't taken any exams yet... okay I took one but Schwetman hasn't given them back yet. I am pretty sure he hasn't correctd them yet.

My journalism table is fantabulous! Next to me is Donna and she has no idea what she is doing... this blogosphere is confusig the hell out of her.

Across from me is Tyler, the love of my life. He loves his Northstar sweatshirt. He wore it to class on Monday, we don't judge him.

Then there is Gina the love of my life. She stole all of the aluminum foil last year when we lived in Stadium. We have lots of fun and went to Applebees once!
