Damage found on Space Station

SpaceFlight Now reported that two astronauts have found damage to a space station. It was imbeaded into the story and was definatly not made out to be a big deal. The damage was found on the starboarb solar alpha rotary joint (SARJ), and the damage was observed last month as well.
The Star Tribune did make a big deal of it. They called it significant and widespread. It was a short story, but made it seem like this was a major issue. When it really seemed to be on the contrary from the specialized news source.

Video of man diying in airport surfaces

A Polish immigrant was killed in a Canadian airport on Oct 14, and now that have his death on video, according to the Associated Press. The man was upset after not being able to see his mother in the baggage claim at the Vancouver Airport, because it was a secure area. The man became erratic and police tasered him to calm him down. The video shows excessive force.
The Winnipeg Sun reported that the man killed was screaming in pain as they were tasering him. They also said that other than throwing a chair earlier, the man did not show any violent actions to the cops. The video is expected to show the severity of the punishment the police used. The man had also spent 10 hours in that secure are for unknown reasons.
I watching ongoing coverage of this video on the early morning news on Thursday. The video did not show the man being violent, or acting violent. The man simply stood there, when the cops were yelling at him. However, the man could not speak English, and was clueless as to what the police were asking of him. The cops knew that because on the video there is another man saying that the man did not speak English. It is a sad video, and it proves that the man should never of had to die, he was not doing anything wrong in the video. That also said that initially the cops claimed the man put up a fight, but he did not.

Global Warming is Increasing

A Nobel prize was awarded recently for work on global warming according to the Star Tribune. However, Monday it was reported that a new study has found that global warming may happen sooner then expected. There happens to be more carbon dioxide in the atmosphere than predicted, 35% higher than last year. That is a much larger percent increase than they were expecting.
The causes could be increased gas emissions by cars and a decline in how much gas is being absorbed by the earth.
The Free Internet Press was not so blunt about the situation they said that global warming will be, "stronger than expected and sooner than expected." That was not so settling with me.
They blamed the rise on China and their soaring economic development. There will now be much more news on cutting back gas emissions and more save the o-zone, and it will be very serious.

Pirates? Attacks are on the rise

I thought pirates were prominently the work of fables and stories, but they seem to be alive and well now, in 2007. CNN reported that Maritime pirate attacks have risen 14 percent in these first 9 months of 2007. That is a worldwide percent, but the most are occurring in Somalia and Nigeria. This is most likely because they are in proximity to one of the busiest waterways in the world, Southeast Asia’s Malacca Strait. 198 attacks of pirates on ships have been reported.
The Inquirer reported that the pirates are hijacking vessels hundreds of miles of shore and keeping the crew and all at ransom. The IMB director Pottengal Mukundan said that, “The level of violence in the high-risk areas remain unacceptable. It was reported that so far this year, 15 vessels have been hijacked, 3 crewmembers killed, 172 crew taken hostage, 63 kidnapped and 21 assaulted. This issue does not seem to be only the ‘bad guys’ in children’s stories anymore. It is a real issue.

Three Earthquakes shake the Pacific

According to CNN, three powerful earthquakes hit the South Pacific Ocean near New Zealand and Guam. They do not believe that it caused any damage, because they occurred too far off shore. There is a fear of tsunamis when earthquakes happen in the ocean, but it does not look like any of these three quakes caused any. The three quakes registered at 7.1, 7.3 and 6.6. They all three were powerful, and happened in a place where earthquakes are not common.
The Star Tribune reported a more recent report that said one earthquake reached a magnitude of 7.4. They said no warning was reported for the earthquakes, the most powerful quake occurred at 4:24 p.m. New Zealand time. The earthquake happened about 295 miles southwest of Invercargill, New Zealand and 125 miles northwest of the uninhabited Auckland Islands. Officials reported that the quake was felt by some, and not by others in New Zealand.

Thai Plane's Data Box Found After Crash

CNN reported that after the deadly plane crash at Phuket in southern Thailand Sunday, 88 people are dead. The flight’s data recorders have been found, and it will be a week before that information will be available. CNN said the plane to be a One-Two-Go Boeing MD-82. Many of the passengers now are saying they knew the plane was going to crash. It was the plane’s second attempt to landing in heavy winds.
A passenger on the plane reported to CNN that during landing the plane touched down then bounced up and then “smashed into the ground.
A passenger from another plane reported that after about five minutes of the crashed plane being engulfed in flames, there was an explosion near the front.
CNN offered many different passenger and witness accounts of the crash. Which allowed for a very interesting look at how the accident panned out from multiple viewpoints.
BCC news reported that the plane was flight OG 269 coming from Bangkok, Thailand. BCC had much more gruesome details. They reported of badly burned people and passengers stepping over other burning passengers to escape. However the worst comment was that of the 80 bodies being kept in a makeshift morgue at the airport. BCC was able to get information about the dead and said what countries they were from. They had much more available information than CNN, which could be because of their proximity to the crash. They reported of the survivors, five are still in critical condition, and both the pilot and co-pilot are among the survivors.

CNN reported a plane crash in Thai that killed 87 people Sunday. The plane made two attempts to landing in windy conditions, and shortly after landing on the second attempt the plane crashed. Once they crashed, the plane started on fire and 43 of the passengers we able to escape with their lives. 130 passengers were on board.
All the eyewitness accounts offered in the report gave very interesting incite. The accounts made the accident very real, and had a strong emotional effect to the reader. Most of the passengers were European tourists.

The plane they said was filled with foreign tourists, and at least 88 of the 130 passengers were killed. The plane had split in two and burst into flames after hitting the ground. O.J. Simpson Arrested for Armed Robbery

According to the Star Tribune, O.J. Simpson was behind bars yet again, this time for suspicion of armed robbery of football great’s sports memorabilia in Las Vegas. He was arrested Sunday and faces multiple felony charges according to the Star Tribune. His worst charge is robbery with the use of a deadly weapon, which could be a sentence up to 35 years.
The report was very conscience and told both sides of the story. Which was the authority side, stating O.J. had a gun and had committed robbery in a casino. O.J.’s side was obviously different, stating that he wasn’t armed, and just was trying to get back stolen mementos of his football career.
CNN has very current coverage of this story. It was the prime story on the website. There it reported that Simpson now faces 6 counts of robbery, assault, burglary and conspiracy. As of late Sunday afternoon, Simpson is still in custody, but he is cooperating.

Missing British Girl's Parent's named as Suspects

September 9, 2007
British parents, Kate and Gerry McCann now have been named as suspects in the case of their missing daughter, Madeleine. An article from CNN.com http://www.cnn.com/2007/WORLD/europe/09/09/madeleine.mccann/index.html said that Madeleine’s blood was found in a car rented by the McCanns weeks after her disappearance. This is what led Portuguese officials to name the parents as suspects.
Both parents deny harming their daughter and say that neither of them had any doing in Maldeleine’s disappearance over four months ago. The Los Angeles Times http://www.twincities.com/ci_6831443?IADID=Search-www.twincities.com-www.twincities.com&nclick_check=1 reported that the family of the McCanns are angered and upset with the situation. However, they are not worried, and are confident that the questioning of the two will prove them both innocent.
Charges have not been filed. The McCanns have only been summoned for questioning by the Portuguese police. The United Press International http://www.upi.com/NewsTrack/Top_News/2007/09/07/kate_and_gerry_mccann_both_suspects/8952/ is reporting that Portuguese officials are looking more at the mother, Kate McCann. Even going as far as to offer her a deal to admit that her daughter was accidentally killed for two years of prison.
