Egypt's president declares a state of emergency

Mohammed Morsi declared a curfew and a state of emergency in three major cities Sunday after street violence, The New York Times reported.
Morsi appeared on television Sunday night to address the violence and reassured the country will not become authoritarian. Morsi will take more actions to stop the violence across the county. A court conviction Sunday sentenced 21 people to death for being involved in a mass soccer riot which started violence which left seven people dead, The Associated Press reported.
Another 11 people died Friday in rallies that marked the second anniversary since uprisings that overthrew Mubarak. Morsi and the Muslim Brotherhood was denounced during these rallies, The Star Tribune reported.
Morsi deployed army troops around the city to protect certain administrative buildings. They took no actions to the violence on the streets, The New York Times reported.
