Digital Storytelling Brainstorm

Today we discussed options for the digital story project.

We discussed the idea of working with an existing story and modifying it for digital format.
Students thought about the concept of metafiction ( fiction about fiction) as found in postmodern children's books (The Stinky Cheese Man) or fiction for adults (Wicked). Here well-known stories and characters are repurposed into new stories, sometimes the endings changed dramatically. We discussed the use of very old stories from the oral tradition (folk tales, fairy tales, myths) and that these aren't subject to the same copyright issues.

We also discussed initial responses to Inanimate Alice as an example of digital storytelling for kids.

Students will post to their individual blogs, more thoughts and research on these topics.
