        <![CDATA[<p>Visual Culture Controversy Dialog<br />
at Noon on Monday December 17<br />
in AB Anderson Hall Room 345<br />
(Art History room)</p>

<p>Department of Art + Design faculty and students are invited to dialog <br />
about artists and their complex relationship to visual culture in an open<br />
society. This dialog will be facilitated by David Hodges from the<br />
Duluth Art Institute. The desire is to keep the conversation<br />
productive and positive. Diverse viewpoints are welcome.</p>

<p>Recent incidents that have opened this discussion include<br />
controversies surrounding the Art Guild showcase and the exhibition of<br />
Neal Peterson's installation in the Tweed.  We hope to set aside the<br />
specifics of these two controversies and to focus the discussion on<br />
what we can do when art generates passionate and surprising responses<br />
from an audience.</p>
