a. What I have noticed the most in our visual culture is clothing. Old trends are regenerating themselves fitting into new categories. Such as skinny leg pants being in style (this was popular in the 80’s). Not only do I see changes in trends, but the way that graphic design is now integrated into clothing, and marketing is also very noticeable.
b. I have noticed that more graphics are being used in things such as advertising. Television commercials specifically. In the new gap commercial with Audrey Hepburn, she is dancing with stars and lines floating with her kicks and movements. This commercial is very visually pleasing and interesting because it is different.
c. In this commercial they are combining the new with the old. It starts out with Audrey Hepburn in one of her old movies, and then she jumps on to a plain screen and starts dancing. I like this commercial because it makes it really interesting and different. When she is dancing on the plain screen there are graphics all around her making it more interesting. There was really nothing that I disliked about the commercial.

I found most of the trends from season to season represent visual culture probley more so than any other venue. I kept my eyes open and flipped through a couple of magazines to find that every top designer is currently creating pattern is some way or another, as has been done before in history. Black, white and gray are again popular colors and are usually the popular colors, matched up with tweeds, plaids, and textured materials. each designer from Chanel, to Nicole Farhi, and Tommy Hilfiger to Mark Eisen are using simple line and organic shapes to create pattern. Its easy to pick up all of the references to visual culture through high fashion because its in our face everywhere from tv to magazines, and worn by celebreties and the common person. What ever the latest trend- it will be noticed and copied.

I have noticed a change in advertising. The advertisements are becoming more simple and to straight to the point. There is also more visual art incorporated in advertisements. For example the recent gap commercials have swirly lines that are doodle like moving around the figures which make it more visually pleasing. Also in magazine ads the layouts are more simple.

The most recent visual culture observations I have made are in fashion. The definition of what is considered to be "fashionable" seems to be constantly changing. In the past couple years I have noticed a change in the graphics on clothing. It seems there has been a shift from text that is printed simply across the shirt to more graphics; such as lines and more abstract images. I have noticed a lot of band t-shirts fall into this category as well. I like the shift towards the more almost graphic design-looking images. I think it is pleasing to look at. I also think it shows a lot of creative expression.

I noticed the amount of website that allow user to design their own website, such as, myspace. Myspace gives anyone a chance to create their own free website, complete with blog, music, list of friends, pictures, and biographies. Users get to design their back grounds, fonts, and colors. I like the amount of creative expression that one can have with their own page.

I have noticed that there are some major companies out there that are going into the digital age with their commercials. They add graphics to enhance the item they are trying to sell. My favorite examples are the HP Computer commercials ("The Computer is personal again.") and the commercial for the new iPod Nano.

I have also noticed the old is new with clothing. The 20's is coming back and now punk is a fashion statement not a steriotype. Also advertisements are becoming more simplistic.

Something that has really caught my attention and interest lately is the new furniture designs that continue to be produced. Furniture is no longer your grandma’s rocking chair or your everyday sofa. Instead, designers have found a way to bring furniture to life with color and expressive shape. The new designs look like they could be the new waiting room designs or replacements for your everyday straight-back chair. This may not deal entirely with graphic design, but it has definitely sparked an interest in me.

okay i posted this in another section too because i wasn't sure which was our class but now i know. one thing i noticed in the design world was something i saw when i was looking in a book about conceptual furniture designs and i realized that a lot of the furniture designed in the early 20th century looks a lot like the furniture you could buy at a store like Ikea today. It seems to me designs go through cycles and tend to repeat themselves over the course of time, which i guess makes sense because designers look at other people's past work for inspiration.

Well, I geuss a lot of things have changed, we are as an american culture, starting to transist into the mid to late 80's as far as stylization goes. Everything is starting to totally turn over to CA animation, and that sucks. I like the colors that are popular right now, earthtones that have a lil flair to them. But, I geuss im just excited about getting back into the art world after being away so long so i geuss im not too current.

As i look around at my surroundings there are so many things that are catchy to the eye but the one thing that i have noticed the most is t-shirt designs and clothing designs. I know that the retro look is coming back into style...... Not knowing what to think of it i took a "THAT'S DIFFERENT" approch. I have found that many designers have taken to the clothing outlet. T-shirts and clothes are no longer just that but also a canvas for art. There are many really intricate designs and line movement.... not only that taking faces and marking them up to make them look more pop artish..... I have noticed this mostly at Target, Pac Sun and Zummies stores.

Recently I have noticed new lines of jewelry that take childhood characters and images and work them into somewhat expensive adult jewelry. There seems to be a child-like feel in a lot of jewelry, from the bright colors to the simple shapes. Bangles and the big beaded necklace remind me of the jewelry I wore as a child. I like this new style of jewelry, it brings me back, and maybe because people seem to grow up so fast these days this line of jewelry is appealing.

The thing I have most recently noticed in visual culture is the new comercials for HP computers. They will have a distinct person such as Jay-Z (a rapper) or Sean White (a snowboarder)standing so that their head is cut off from the camera. They will explain how they have personalized their HP in order for it to fit their lifestyles and they do this by using digital images on the camera. At the end they explain how the computer is personal again, and introduce the famous person so that you can put it all together. The comercial is appealing and works!

I have recently noticed is the styles of architecture in visual culture. Places like the Seatle Public Library Has a very modrern stlye and isnt just a simple 4 wall textbook structure but Its more artsy and visually appealing because its complex. Also the Food Theater Cafe in London is very abstract, but looks pretty cool.

I think that it's becoming so much easier for "ordinary people" to express themselves creatively. Personal websites plus social sites such as myspace allow online creativity, while if you have your own artwork it can be very easy to get it printed on a t-shirt and showcase your personal style that way.
