Hand Dyed Silk Scarves
by Lisa Akerson
These silk scarves were hand dyed with the highest quality of acid dyes, one of the best dyes to use on silk fabric. The images on the scarf were created with a combination of hand sketches and digital alterations made in Photoshop. Once the images were prepared
and printed on a transparency, they then were exposed with photo emulsion located on a silkscreen. The inks used were all mixed using basic fabric inks with pearl essence added to give the images a shimmering texture. The Images on the scarf were all hand
printed using a silkscreen. I hope you enjoy this unique scarf!
SPECIAL INSTRUCTIONS: hand wash in cold water, line dry.
I am in my second year as a Graphic Design major at UMD. My main interests are in creating digital imagery and combining these digital images with other media very similar to that of these scarves. Silkscreening has always been a big interest of mine and I will continue to use work with it as much as I can.
Mosaic Mirrors
by Brenna Mohr
An original photograph was digitally altered and adhered to a wood framed mirror. Mosaic glass stones were applied to reveal a more magnified and abstract version of the original image. Each mirror has a unique design. A great piece of home decor for you to keep or to give as a gift!
I am a Graphic Design major in my third year here at UMD. I am passionate about art and design and I am especially interested in mixed-media art.
Hand-Crafted Earrings
by Jennifer Bradley
These earrings are crafted by hand using various metals (sterling silver, new gold, and copper) and fabric. The imagery on each piece of fabric was created through the use of digital technology and image transfer.
Jennifer Bradley is a senior, studying Art Education at the University of Minnesota Duluth.
Anime Wine Charms
by Kareen Lane
This product was inspired by the many faces of Japanese Anime. Each anime in Japan is different and can shift from comedy to drama to thriller in the same story. Each of the characters in anime have a different style as well as anime itself. So while
American cartoons are often for kids, Japanese Anime relates to all different types of people or characters.
I am a sophomore and my major is Digital Arts and Photography.
Bad Holiday Shirt
by Jake Petrangelo
In the vein of the “bad Christmas sweater”, I have produced the “bad Christmas shirt”. These long-sleeved, 100% cotton shirts were enhanced with holiday designs on digital iron-transfer paper. The design was created using photoshop and illustrator. Machine wash, cool.
Jake Petrangelo is a junior studying Graphic Design.
Black Hockey Sweatpants
by Josh Faust
These cool hockey sweats are dressed up with digital imagery, cut up and sewed back together with hockey laces, then belted with a special strap. A perfect gift for any hockey fan, male or female!
This is my fourth year in college. My major is graphic design. I like working with digital media and websites.
Love Your Planet - canvas tote bag
by Nikki Bro
This unique, self-generated design supports awareness of global warming and encourages people go green! The imagery illuminates the possible extinction of many animals by 2050 due to global warming. This canvas tote can be used for anything from books to groceries. Bonus Gift: It also comes with a magnet for your fridge!
I am a senior graphic design student and will be graduating at the end of December. I am very excited to get out in the real world and design some exciting stuff! I prefer to work in print but have been trying to strengthen my skills in other areas as well. Please visit my senior show, up right now in the student gallery!
Mild / Wild Life Napkins

Zach Kampa is a 2nd year graphic design student with interests in street art and stenciling, and incorporating different media into digital work.
Canvas Wallets

Tiffany Szerpicki is a junior majoring in Graphic Design with minors in Art and Arts in Media and a love for anything retro!
Philbert Accessory Bags
by Megan Sorenson
These hand sewn accessory bags are made out of 100% cotton. The Philbert image was illustrated and silk screened by the artist. Fabric patterns were selected to work with the imagery, inspired by a 1960’s woodcut. Use these handy accessory bags for anything: cds, computer accessories, travel gear... The bags should be hand-washed and line-dried to prevent shrinking and fraying.
I am a senior Graphic Design major here at UMD and will graduate in Sept 2008 after finishing a few summer courses. I am very interested in product design and photography.
Hands of Time Clocks
by Katy Kittelson
I am a big fan of digital art and photography so I decided to combine the two art forms. I decided to use hands to represent the hands on a clock. I also used common hand gestures that the average person would be able to interpret. Since many clocks are dull in color, I made many different colors to add flavor to someone's home. I just wanted to create something visually interesting and fun that I would enjoy in my own home. Battery operated.
Please visit my senior exhibit in the student gallery!
Snowboard Stickers/Decals
by Matt Dahlstrom
This series of different stickers are made to go on snowboards, skateboards, laptops, cars, etc. The imagery is influenced by snowboard culture, but I have put my own artistic spin on each design. The stickers are produced to withstand the harsh conditions of the outdoors.
I am a sophomore at UMD pursuing a major in Graphic Design and a minor in Photography. In my spare time I like to snowboard and keep active. Art and design has been passion of mine ever since I was little.
Transparent Art

Hemp Necklaces with Glass Beads
by Nicole Wangen
Each necklace was hand-crafted from hemp with glass beads blown by Collin Sinz. Digital artwork on the glass beads was designed and applied by me using a machine that my mom has for her business. I made all the necklaces different because I think it's important that each consumer has a variety of items to choose from, both feminine and masculine.
Special Instructions: The beads are fragile, store carefully and avoid getting necklace wet.
I am a senior communication major, photography minor. My passion in the art world is photography so I try to incorporate that in all of my digital art work.

Grow-Your-Own-Tree Kit
by Keir Gellatly
This kit provides all the materials and information that you need to grow your very own christmas tree! Simple steps tell you how to use the product, and what to expect. A safe, fun gift for that tree-hugger in the family.
Artist statement: I've always liked new, innovative, and amusing artwork. Most of my pieces contain some humorous or odd aspect, to get the person to think, "Is he serious?". I'd rather see a flaming duck statue in a museum, than a Mona Lisa.
Nerds of the World Unite
by Joshua "M" Effinger
In high school, or in maybe our entire lives, we always have struggled with the labels that were thrust upon us. Here’s a button for those who enjoyed Dungeons and Dragons in your mother’s basement whilst the football players scored with cheerleaders. And for those who ate from the pie of humility while they hung from the flagpole by their trousers after acing the math test. For all Art majors who actually feel that their soul needs to be expressed, and are smothered by the request of their father to make a sandwich. For all of you, I give you your star. A poorly constructed Black Button, built by an art computer design program that the very people who it was made for created. A button that speaks to the sense of un-coolness that creates a camaraderie no wedgie can undo.
Special instructions: Put it on things and try to avoid letting it poke you.
Joshua Effinger is a Studio Art major/Foreign Studies minor, attempting B.F.A for past 6 years at the U of M Duluth campus. He enjoys traveling and baked goods with a ferocious passion.
