I recently came across the cool website call instructables. for my final project for 2D studio i used this part of the wed site http://www.instructables.com/id/Printing-colour-images-on-to-wood%3a-Making-letter-t/
although i found that it took much longer than suggested and you still had peices of the photo peel off the wood. It did make for an interseting composition. on one of my pieces i did sand the image to make it seem distressed or old. Try it for yourself.
