Installation Instructions

The Assignment Calculator is very easy to install and configure. All you need is:

  1. Access to a PHP enabled web server. If you aren't sure if you have access or if you aren't sure you have a PHP enabled web server, talk with your server administrator.
  2. The ability to create a new web directory on your server. There are 6 files that come in the OS version of the Assignment Calculator. For the initial installation, all of these files must reside in the same directory on your server.
  3. There is no need to know PHP, but you will want to change or configure the file called "instructions.php." This file holds the information for the time limits for each step as well as the text and links for each step of your institution's preferred research process.

The OS version of the Assignment Calculator is also very plain in appearance. You may change the "look and feel" of the web pages much like you would any other web page. If you have any questions, don't hesitate to leave a comment below!

I downloaded the assignment calculator and enabled PHP on my web server. When I try the code that I downloaded from your blog the index page has no place to enter dates. If I view the source from the UMN page or the Dahl page, save the source code and try that I get undefined variables in the date.php files and an undefines constant in the instructions.php file. What am I doing wrong? Is there a step I am missing? Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Each installation of PHP can be a little different. Does your installation parse files that end in .php and .phtml? Of course, you may need to modify the Apache conf files to get it to do this. That is what first comes to mind when I read you message. Let me know.

- Yes, surely there is no such need. TO change php file is not a problem, because it's the same txt file but not txt extension.

I suppose, there is a need to know as well as one language, or the principle of programming in overall.
