Majerus named Head Basketball Coach at St. Louis

Former Utah coach Rick Majerus was named the head basketball coach at the University of St. Louis on Friday. ESPN.com is reporting the contract will be somewhere around 5-years with a salary of about $1 million per year.

According to The Associated Press, Majerus will be named head coach at news conference on Monday.

The St. Louis Post Dispatch is reporting Majerus was the only person contacted about the coaching vacancy by the university.

Oden Enters Draft

Ohio State's Greg Oden announced he will end his college basketball career when he said Friday he will hire an agent and enter the NBA draft. According to ESPN.com, Oden is figured to be one of the top two picks in the draft.

FOXSports.com is reporting Oden will be joined in the draft by fellow Ohio State freshmen Mike Conley Jr. and Daequan Cook, Conley Jr. and Cook will reportly not hire agents leaving the option for Conley Jr. and Cook to return to school.

According to the Associated Press, Oden is expected to hire Mike Conley Sr. to be his agent.

Imus Fired AFter Racial Comments

Disc jockey Don Imus was fired Thursday from the CBS radio network after making racial comments regarding the Rutgers women's basketball team last week. According to The Associated Press, CBS decided to remove Imus' radio show from the air Thursday, following the removal of his show from MSNBC on Wednesday.

CNN is reporting 8 companies removed their ads from Imus's show including General Motors and American Express.

According to BBC News, the head of CBS met with civil rights activist who insisted that the network remove Imus from his position.

Kentucky names Texas A&M's Gillispie New Head Coach

Billy Gillispie was introduced as the new head basketball coach at the University of Kentucky on Friday, replacing former head coach Tubby Smith who is now at Minnesota. ESPN.com is reporting Gillispie and Kentucky agreed to a seven-year deal worth $2.3 million per year salary.

According to The Associated Press, Kentucky was considering several different candidates for the job but Gillispie was the only candidate formally offered the position.

The Kentucky Kernel is reporting Kentucky decided to pursue Gillispie after Billy Donovan decided to stay at Florida.

Gore Signs New Deal With 49ers

Frank Gore agreed to a new four-year contract extension on Tuesday to remain with the San Francisco 49ers. According to The Associated Press, 49ers Head Coach Mike Nolan confirmed the deal Wednesday at the NFL Meetings in Phoenix.

ESPN.com is reporting Gore's new total will have him making around $14 million in guaranteed money and it will include a $6.5 million signing bonus.

According to NFL.com, the deal will keep Gore in San Francisco through 2011.

Tubby Smith Heads to The University of Minnesota

Tubby Smith become the new head basketball coach at the Unversity of Minnesota Thursday, ending a 10-year run as coach at the University of Kentucky. ESPN.com is reporting Smith's new contract with Minnesota is a seven-year deal that will pay him $1.8 million per season.

According to The Associated Press, Smith will be introduced as the new head coach at a press conference on Friday at noon.

The St. Paul Pioneer Press is reporting Smith was under pressure to win more championships at Kentucky, despite having a record of 263-83 during his tenure with the team.

Penguins Will Remain in Pittsburgh

The NHL's Pittsburgh Penguins will stay in Pittsburgh after state and local officials agreed to a deal with the Penguins for a new stadium. The Pittsburgh Tribune-Review is reporting the new uptown arena deal is a $290 million agreement.

According to KDKA-TV, the new stadium should be finished for the 2009-2010 NHL season.

The Associated Press is reporting the deal will keep the Penguins in Pittsburgh for 30 years.

Clippers Livingston Out for Season

Los Angeles Clippers guard Shaun Livingston sustained a season-ending injury in a game Monday night. The Associated Press is reporting an MRI done Tuesday revealed Livingston tore three of the four ligaments in his left knee.

According to LAClippers.com, the estimated recovery time for Livingston's injuries are 8 to 12 months.

Sports Network is reporting Livingston had his knee put back into place at the arena by Dr. Steven Shimoyama.

Ravens Billick Given Contract Extension

The Baltimore Ravens and head football coach Brian Billick came to an agreement Wednesday on a contract extension. FOXSports.com is reporting the deal will pay Billick about $5 million per year over the next four years.

According to ESPN.com, the four-year deal with keep Billick in Baltimore through 2010. Billick led the Ravens to an NFL Championship in 2001.

Baltimoreravens.com is reporting when the extension was first reached neither Billick or the Ravens would release the details of the contract.

Bonds Signs Contract with Giants

After nearly two months of debate, Barry Bonds signed a contract Thursday agreeing to a one-year deal with the San Francisco. MLB.com is reporting that Bonds contract is a guaranteed 15.8 million dollars for next season.

The commissioner's office approved the deal on Thursday. According to CBC Sports, Bonds will report to Giants spring training on Monday.

The Associated Press is reporting the deal contains a clause that states the Giants may terminate Bonds contract if he is indicted for perjury in the BALCO sterioid investigation.

Asteroid Headed for Earth in 2029

An asteroid known as Apophis is on a crash course with earth on Friday, April 13, 2029. Buzzle.com is reporting the giant rock carries the energy of 65,000 bombs if it hits earth.

According to Buzzle.com, the asteroid has enough power to completely destory a small country.

Buzzle.com is reporting the countries across the Pacific, and Russia are the most likely to be hit by the asteroid.

Wade Phillips Named New Head Coach of Cowboys

The Dallas Cowboys hired Wade Philips as their new head football coach on Thursday. ESPN.com is reporting that Phillips and Cowboys owner Jerry Jones agreed to a three-year contract.

Phillips was hired to replace former Cowboys head coach Bill Parcells who retired after this past season. According to The Associated Press, Dallas wanted Phillips because he has experience running a 3-4 defensive scheme.

10 candidates were interviewed for the Cowboys head coaching position. According to The Dallas Morning News, Phillips is the only candidate who had no previous affiliation with the team.

Sacramento Kings Coach Suspended for DUI Plea

Eric Musselman, the head of coach of the NBA's Sacramento Kings was suspended on Thursday because of a plea stemming from a DUI arrest in October. ESPN.com has reported that Musselman will be suspended without pay for the next two games.

According to The Associated Press, the Kings head coach pleaded no contest during a court hearing in Sacramento last week.

Reports from KXTV in Sacramento are that one of the Kings assistant coaches will take over in Musselman's absence.
