I have not checked in here for some time because I thought it was getting boring, but the last few posts are great quality so I guess Iˇ¦ll add you back to my daily bloglist. You deserve it my friend :)
Make sure an SLP trained in assessment of ELL students has done a thorough language evaluation. (An assessment in both English and the native language may be necessary.)Then, collaborate with a diagnostician who is trained in the assessment of ELL students. Have her assess the student's reading skills and/or academic skills. (Again this may need to be done in English and the native language.) Together you can determine whether reading difficulties are due to the acquisition of a second language or not.
