In this scenario a student returns to finish up a senior paper, directed study, 2nd half of the semester class after the 2nd week deadline to add a class without permission. The student will need to go through the permission process to the point when they would go to Onestop Student Services to actually enroll in the course. In other words, the student would have to get a permission number from their instructor or through the directed study permission number process, go to their student community to petition to add the late class, and then come to our office with this documentation so we can ask ASR to remove their discontinuation row, and readmit. Finally, the student can go to Onestop to register for their course.

Scenario one: An alumnus has declared the CLA major, but decided to graduate before they were done with it.

Request from Colleen Brooks in OTR to create a new career with the major added

Scenario two: The alumnus returned to pursue a major that they have not declared yet.

Ask them to complete the Change of College form

Scenario three: They return to complete their CLA part of their dual degree. They should have a discontinued CLA career.

You can just readmit them as if they were a normal everyday CLA readmission.

Scenario four: They return to declare a minor for the first time. The most common situation is to declare the Chemistry minor.

Request from Colleen Brooks in OTR a new CLA career with a non-degree program plan, ask the student to go to the Chemistry department to request a minor program form. Once you receive the minor program form, code the minor program form to the new career and ask the student to let the Health and Natural Sciences (or the student community that manages that minor) office know when they have completed all of the requirements so they can clear the minor. Tag the student in APLUS to alert advisers.

We had a student, Chandra Honebrink 4213283, request to retake the chemistry placement test because she believed that she learned enough chemistry since the summer to place in to 1061. She was advised to take Chem 1015 but decided to take an earth science course instead. When told that it would have been easier if she had just started out with Chem 1015, she said that she avoided that course because of the online lecture component. We referred her case to Laurel Carroll who told us that Michelle Driessen in the Chemistry department would have to make this decision, and that the student would have to contact her directly.
