Nice post Andrew

Our life is getting more and more crowded with new technology. Multitasking is a way of life. We are conditioned to listen to music while we do our homework while we are watching a movie. We have an illusion of a poverty of time. We have to cram in as much as possible so we have "spare" time. I don't know what I do with all of my "spare" time. Everyone thinks multitasking is a product of our current lifestyle but it has been going on for a long time. Imagine the family sitting around listening to a radio show in the early 1950's and the phone rings. Given the technology of the day, that was multitasking. I'm sure there were family battles against reading a book at the same time they were listening to the radio.

I really like what you said about embracing certain new technologies rather than just "dealing" with them. When you're able to use new technology as it serves your needs, its much more comfortable than when you're forced into using or learning how to operate it. I can see it clearly in my parents reactions to some technologies; my mother has to learn programs and use them immediately for work, and I think it causes extra stress when you're forced to deal with technology as you mentioned, as opposed to using it at your own pace.

I would completely agree with you Andrew on your first comment about cells and texting. I to sometimes would like to throw my phone away with the uncontrollable amount of texts that I get. I cannot deny the convienence of it though when making a call is not possible.

I agree with you that communication is unavoidable. Technology in general is also unavoidable. The two create a strong bond in spreading news, ideas, and messages in a matter of seconds. I personally don't know if multitasking is a great thing. I once heard that multitasking is actually less efficient than concentrating on one task. I think that just because people can multitask doesn't always mean that they should. For instance, talking on the cell phone and driving and applying mascara during redlights probably is not a good idea. In my opinion, in such cases, multitasking increases the risk of people getting distracted and causing an accident. As far as communciation goes, I think that the reason why it's so popular to have cell phones and beepers and such is because people like to feel like they can get in touch with anyone they want whenever they want. I think that it makes people feel special on some level and makes them feel less lonely. I know that it's the case with me.

Great post! Although a burden, I agree that these technologies can help keep long-distance friendships going. I too have friends that live far away.

Nice work!
Yea I wonder sometimes. I like being able to reach people more easily but I miss the feeling of being off the grid when I was between phones.
