new category!

Since several of you have very real concerns about the job economy and what's been called the rise of the creative class, I’ve made a category called "Offshoring / The Creative Class." Sara just posted about the topic’s place (or lack thereof) in this election cycle), and I think further discussion would be quite appropriate for our class if you’re up for it.

Here's another article on the topic of the creative class. The author is reporting on the emergence of a new type of Web worker he's calling a "digital curator." He defines the job as follows: information overload makes it difficult to separate junk from art. It requires a certain finesse and expertise - a fine tuned, perhaps trained eye. ... They're identifiable subject matter experts who dive through mountains of digital information and distill it down to its most relevant, essential parts. Digital Curators are the future of online content. Brands, media companies and dedicated individuals can all become curators." Sounds like a really cool job to me... http://www.micropersuasion.com/2008/02/the-digital-cur.html

Interesting article about digital curators, Sara. The world wide web has definitely created jobs that were not existent before the web. At my former company, we had a cybrarian (a cyber librarian). In a class I took last semester, we discussed how there are many jobs created because of the web and many more jobs will continue to be created in the future. Interesting!
