Anyone Know a Good HTML Book?

Ok, so there is nothing like having to fix some stuff you did wrong AND blog about readings in three days...WHEW! Anyway, I honestly didn't think about copyright on the Flickr pics. Why??? Because I lost track of what I was doing. I also got so excited that I wasn't thinking clearly (I think I like designing and want to learn more), plus I had no idea what the hell I was doing. I would love to have a "HTML For Dummies" book, anyone have a good handle on a good book on that subject? I sure would appreciate that.

Ok, enough on that. The readings...hmmm. They were so interesting. Even though I know being a little (a lot) jealous of these people who just know what to do to make money off the internet is not the gist of these readings, I find those stories to be an exact illustration of what is possible. When I saw the YouTube selections on the readings, I laughed my butt off. The motivational speaker was awesome! By watching him I have come to realize all you really need is a gimmick...but a good one. Not some fly-by-night idea, but something that someone needs. As for the advertising aspect...wow. What a concept.

I do not, however, think TV is a thing of the past. I love to be able to come home, not turn on my computer, just sit and watch a couple of comedies that make me feel good. TV on the internet? It just seems like if you worked from home you would want to have just ONE room for work. The rest of the house really needs to be for HOME.

All in all, I am having the best time playing around in here. It all really does seem to be coming together. I am still confused as to how this will all look in the end, but the confusion is clearing alot.

I can relate to your Flickr experience completely. This shocks me since I am a graphic designer and have to keep copyright issues in mind all the time. Just like you, however, I got caught up in the experience and forgot about that nasty little detail. I read the Creative Commons license attached to each photo I wanted to use but that didn't seem good enough. I tracked the photos back to the person who posted them and read his or her profile. I found many who requested that you notify them before using their photos. So I contacted all of them with my request and supplied links to our wiki so they could see how their work would be used. They all replied within 24 hours (which really surprised me) and were happy to give their permission. One thanked me specifically for my professionalism and another appreciated seeing exactly where in the wiki his photo would be used. It was a very gratifying experience and one that confirmed a strong Web 2.0 "ethos" among Flickr members. On the other hand, I did find a few professional photographers who required users to obtain their permission and pay for the rights to publish the work. Very interesting for me. Now I'm aware of another vast source of imagery for my work ...

I agree with you that TV is not a thing of the past. I would actually be surprised if TV ever disappeared, just because it seems that we live in a culture that spends the vast majority of it's time in front of a television. I also think that at this time it is very difficult to match the capability of tv on the internet. At this point in time we don't necessarily have the technological capabilities to stream the mass amount of media we receive through the tv. So I agree that while the article was interesting it just isn't feasible and this point in time.

On another note, I just wanted to comment on the Flickr issue. I did the exact same thing. I just so into searching for a uploading photos that once I realized what happened I was so embarrassed. I think it is just an end of the semester thing, we are all so busy that little things slip through the crack!
