Sex offender arrested after luring 15-year-old girl off the internet
According to CNN, authorities arrested a registered sex offender that lured a 15-year-old Florida girl to run away with him.
William Joe MItchell, 46, was arrested Saturday at a truck stop just outside of Westminster, Virginia, authorities said.
Police received a tip from someone claiming to have seen Mitchell.
Some of the girl's personal belongings were found in Mitchell's car.
The two met on MySpace.com and had been communicating for quiite some time and Mitchell was claiming to be a 24 year-old young man.
The girl, Alyssa Frank, was found earlier this week, the day after her disappearance, at local Wal-Mart store in DeFuniak Springs, Florida where Mitchell apparently let her go.
It is believed that Frank left her house late Monday to meet Mitchell and they headed to Alabama.
According to MSNBC, Mitchell is being held without bond at the Frederick County regional jail, said Corinne Geller, spokeswoman for the Virginia State Police.
Mitchell has an extensive criminal history with 14 arrests ranging from burglarly to bomb threats.
Frank apparently had told friends that she was in love with Mitchell and that she was planning to run away. She believed him to be in his 20s.
The day of Frank's disappearance, a new Flordia law took effect making the state’s sex predator penalties some of the toughest in the nation.
Mitchell is being held without bond at the Frederick County regional jail, said Corinne Geller, spokeswoman for the Virginia State Police.
