If blogging counts as classwork, it can count as research...right?
I know some of you already blogged on this for me, but I thought I'd invite you all to help me with my research once again.
I like the blog because it gives you all an opportunity to share whatever you like without me having to actually conduct interviews. I'll share with you a snippet of my paper to give you an idea of what I'm looking for: "My research is focused on actions and attitudes of consultants regarding computer use during face-to-face consultations... How do SWS-Nicholson consultants use computers during their consultations? How do consultants feel about computers? In Nicholson, what role do the style of computer and its position and orientation in the carrel play? Does posession or ownership of a computer play a role?" Please share your experiences with me; I will get your consent before I use any of it directly in my paper. Even if it isn't what I'm looking for now, perhaps it will help me see what I should be looking for.

The computer has never really hindered me in sessions, nor do I even really think about it. It's useful for showing students our website and its links, and for googling things in general ("well buddy, let's look up some resume samples!"). So, I've used the comp to find writing examples, citation questions (I loooove the diana hacker site), word definitions, etc. I use also use to instruct students on making appointments online and/or look up when we have available openings.
The only time I think the computer affects the session in a negative way is when either it errors or I totally mess up on something e.g. looking stuff up on the indexes through the library's site and failing to find anything helpful. And when something like that happens, I feel embarrassed, but can usually walk it off ("well, I don't seem to be having any luck, but you can try giving it a go when you get the chance").

I'm sure you already know about this since you're always waaay ahead of the game (especially in this whole inquiry thing). I'm perusing the writing center journal online (cause you know, i'm into that), and there's an entire issue devoted to computers in the writing center. So if you haven't already, check it OUT!
