Leadership is taking care of the people you lead and just as important is taking care of yourself. To be able to have the skills to be emotionally and physically stable and portray that to those whom you lead. Then to push them by communicating effectively and you into uncomfortable risks to grow as a team through positive conflict but realizing who you are as a team while doing it and keeping that consistency, a team that is in constant growth to be a leader is not short term be but a lifelong process.

In the past two definitions I decided that I did not want to change much besides add a communication concept based on the readings from this week. I thoroughly enjoyed that Saphiere compared the communication aspect of leadership to the complexity and chaos of a circus. In my opinion communication is one of the most important factors of being an effective leader and I cannot believe I left it out, but after reading this piece it made me realize that I was missing that aspect.

My two definitions changed in that I added some more words the make the clarity better from last weeks and then added a small portion that was influenced by this weeks reading. In that I made a point to put you must stay true to you are in a sense while growing as a leader so that the consistency stays as change is made. The most memorable part of the reading for me was the discoveries mapped out on 610 in Boyatzis's "An Overview of Intentional Change from a Leadership Perspective." I felt it laid out the idea of the entire reading in such a simplicity but with deep meaning.

There was a small change between the two definitions besides adding that the way to grow is through conflict within a group. To make positive change and to be innovative things have to be questioned and looked at in conflict. In Komives, For college students who want to make a difference allowed me to view conflict as something good rather than the negative connotation it tends to hold. The way they balanced out the advantages and disadvantages broke it down easily to explain exactly what they were trying to portray. However I disagree with a majority of the disadvantages and if you are a good leader there is no way that the conflict being discussed by whom your leading should get to the negative disadvantages of it.

The two definitions did not change. The readings from this week reiterated things I already felt or knew. When you lead you can't judge a book by its cover like Gladwell is projecting, prejudices will always be there because no matter what people are influenced by something like Tatum is saying, and Kezar talks about your standpoint and how it is where you view the world from. These valid and solid arguments are what I feel as if I have been told since grade school just more simplified then. The only thing in the reading that bothered me was how cynical Kezar was towards men because simply I am just not like that and how she says an orientation to leadership derived from those traditionally in positions of power, i.e., a mostly white, male, upper- middle class." I would like to believe that women can evolve that and that is where the energy should be focused.

Not a lot changed between my two definitions other than that I realized a leader is not just something to settle in one place but there is always growing even for the greatest leader. In the reading, "Becoming a Servant Leader: Do You Have What It Takes?" the authors talk about seven characteristics that a leader takes a life long process to achieve all of them and continues to grow (Barbuto, 2007).

To be able to have the skills you have to be emotionally and physically stable to portray and understand that to those whom you lead. Then to push them and you into uncomfortable risks to grow as a team.

My new definition changed in that it is equally important to take care of both your followers and yourself it is mostly about the people you lead but not losing yourself is important in leading those people. The most valuable thing that sprung out to me instantly in this weeks reading was the concept of needing to take a step back sometimes and make sure you still are who you truly are and the leadership role does not get the best of you. A way to help that it says to find a place to take this step back, "A sanctuary may be a place or an activity that allows you to step away and recalibrate your internal responses" (Heifetz, 2009).
