Charges are expected to be filed against a 9-year-old boy who brought a gun to his Washington state elementary school that went off and critically hurt a classmate.

At the end of school Wednesday, a bullet went through 8 year-old Amina Kocer Bowman's backpack and into her abdomen. She remained in critical condition Thursday after surgery at Harborview Medical Center in Seattle, hospital spokeswoman Leila Gray said.

Under Washington state law children between 8 and 12 years old can face charges if a court determines the child has the ability to understand an act is wrong, prosecutor Todd Dowell told CBS News.

Investigators were trying to determine how the 9-year-old boy got the .45 caliber gun from his mother's house and why he would bring it to school.

"I just want everyone to know that my kid made a mistake. It was a terrible mistake," the boy's father, Jason Cochran, told the Associated Press outside the courtroom.

Eight more bodies were found Wednesday on the shipwrecked Costa Concordia and employees are being investigated, Italian officials said.

The victims were discovered at the stern of the ship after search-and-rescue divers accessed the lower decks by blasting holes in the ship's hull. The victims were not immediately identified, officials told ABC News.

The cruise liner struck rocks and turned on its side January 13 off the Italian island of Giglio. Italian officials are still deciding whether to file charges against Concordia captain Francesco Schettino.

Meanwhile, four Concordia officers and three Costa employees are under investigation, prosecutor Francesco Verusio told CNN.

They have not been charged, detained, or arrested. They are being suspected of committing multiple manslaughter, shipwreck, and failing to alert maritime authorities.

Looking at Fox News, the site has a specific section entitled "Video." There are a number of featured videos and a Mobile Video subheading as well. Most of these videos will just run one after the other, set up almost like Hulu or another site of the sort. There is generally much less writing or none at all, except maybe a line resembling a lead to give a little background. Many news stories will have pictures with captions and those stories tend to be a little shorter and occasionally reference the picture.

CBS is slightly more discreet about the mobile and radio options available, but they are there if you look hard enough. The "bigger" stories were more likely to have pictures or video involved. The video section of the site was down when I went on but videos would show up elsewhere.

Mobile options are great in this day and age because it seems like everyone has a smart phone or tablet device at hand. Audio seems to be dying, especially with how everything is going HD lately. Audio can still be great, especially for elections and such where you want to hear the intonation in someone's voice.

Video is obviously a good way to round things out as well because it tends to give a lot of good background and it's easier to feel the tone of a particular story. Photos do a nice job of advancing stories, in my opinion. It's nice to put a face to the name in a story or to get a better idea of the setting of a news story.

A group of 125 students and chaperones were perusing the Richard T.
A smaller group of 30 students from Oak Grove Middle School was walking down a trail when they discovered the deceased male. Police say he died from a gunshot wound to his head.

Police interviewed students and teachers and the field trip was subsequently canceled. Grief counselors were made available to staff and students, school district spokesman Rick Kaufman told the Star Tribune.

"A couple of kids were very distraught by what they saw," he said.

The boy, 14-year-old Hunter Mack, was hospitalized after shooting himself around 11 a.m. on Friday at Walpole Elementary. The school was locked down for several hours, but no one else was injured, police told Fox News.

Chesire County Attorney Peter Heed told ABC News that Hunter was possibly upset over "relationship issues" with a girl.

"It clearly involved a relationship issue; I think that is fair to say," Heed said.

Nick Phillips, an eighth-grader in class with Hunter, said the 14-year-old had been passing notes during the week saying he was depressed, but it wasn't clear why.

As of Friday afternoon, the 14-year-old was in critical condition at a New Hampshire hospital.

Counselors were parked in the school parking lot on Saturday to talk to students and faculty. School will go on Monday as usual.

The lead gives just enough information: "shot to death" and "hotel in Minneapolis" are specific yet general at the same time because the number of shots and name of hotel are not included yet.

The story moves into giving the age, name, and location of the victim and included that he was "shot several times." The next bit gives more about the when and where which is very effective. Names should be first and when is less crucial usually. The place could have been brought in with his name as well, but this way was fine.

The next part brings up the arrest. If this had been put any later, it could have been a hindrance to the story because it took so long to get to the "meat" of the story if you will. Luckily the other fact blocks were short and it was just fine.

The rest of the story contains quotes and slightly less pertinent information and then follows into asking if anyone has details about the incident. This story was very effective and followed a nice, readable structure.

Due to limited money for science and a over-budget new space telescope, the agency had to cut missions to the neighboring planet in favor of exploring elsewhere.

The two proposed missions were joint missions with Europe expected to be in 2016 and 2018. NASA has previously agreed to pay a total of $1.4 billion for the missions, Fox News said.

Some missions to Mars will continue, but the fate of more major flights is unclear, including a plan to bring rocks from the red planet back to Earth.

After receiving backlash from the media for cutting funding to Planned Parenthood, Komen foundation founder Nancy Brinker apologized and reversed her decision on Friday.

The foundation said it would be stopping more than $650,000 grants to Planned Parenthood, money that went to funding breast cancer screenings. Planned Parenthood supporters lashed out on Facebook, Twitter, and via email and phone calls.

"They really wanted a chance to register their frustration and to say no to politics coming before women's health," said Jen Aulwes, a spokesperson for Planned Parenthood in the Midwest.

Supporters raised 3 million dollars to fund breast cancer screenings just in this past week, Kare 11 reports.

Planned Parenthood does a physical breast exam on every woman as part of a regular physical, and refers mammograms to any woman over 40. About 80 percent of its clients are younger than 35, and may not see other doctors. This exam could be the only method of detecting breast cancer for some, the Star Tribune reports.

Komen founder Nancy Brinker said the group is committed to women's health, and that the move was "not political," Kare 11 reports.

A new video game developed by the University of Minnesota is teaching teens the dangers of distracted driving.

"Distraction Dodger," the internet-based game, was developed by the U's Intelligent Transportation Systems Institute.

In the game, players drive a pizza deliver car and are encouraged to use social media, a smart phone, and a GPS to build their business and gain points, CBS News reports.

The perils of the game include texting while trying to avoid animals in the road, traffic, pedestrians, and other vehicles. The goal of the game is to show teens just how complex driving really is, the Star Tribune reports.
.
As players progress through the game, they receive feedback about their performance. Some teens said that the performance was "a real eye-opener," CBS News reports.

The worst winter in decades hits Europe, causing power outages, devastating accident, and transportation issues across Italy.

Three people died and 500 people had to be evacuated from their homes during adverse weather conditions this past Sunday. It is the worst snow to hit Europe in 18 years, BBC reports.

Many of Aniene Valley's 32 villages near Rome lost electricity on Friday when snow caused an electric pylon to fall. The valley is home to 50,000 people and has received a reported 39 inches of snow this winter, CNN reports.

Piero Moscardini, mayor of Vallinfreda, is very concerned for villagers as transportation has become near impossible and this means livestock will suffer.

"The situation is tragic," he told CNN. We need the Army to save us."

An issue with a lack of equipment to compete with the rise in snowfall has led to traffic jams, people being stranded, and a number of other concerns. An hour long commute easily becomes four hours.

Rome's Mayor Gianni Alemanno was being criticized for the city's handling of the weather.

Public offices and schools will be closed this upcoming Monday, the city told CNN
