I'm ignorant and uninformed when it comes to politics. (But you know what they say, 'Ignorance Is Bliss!') I don't even know what GOP and DFL stand for. But I need to post something, so here's my opinion about the upcoming election.
I want Bush to win the election, I think it would be best for the country, but I think Kerry is going to win. Virtue and morality just aren't respected these days anymore. I'm not saying Kerry is immoral or that Bush is morally perfect, Kerry just supports several immoral or dangerous things (I think). Like abortion, same-sex marriage, right to carry guns anywhere, legalizing marijuana, etc. If Kerry doesn't support all of those then at least liberals in general do. Freedom and choice are good things, but not when they clash with ethics and common sense! A certain degree of government control and regulation is required. America is not an anarchy. But if such things as these are allowed to flourish, and trends continue, it may someday be.
I suppose its good that kids our age are taking an active stance in politics, but the whole "bush bash" is really taking its toll on me.
i probably won't vote for bush come election, but i can't help to feel that a lot of peoples views are a little misguided. don't forget that your beloved John Kerry voted FOR the war, after he didn't support it, after he did support it, hmm gets confusing: www.kerryoniraq.com ...that might help cleaer things a little bit. so i think people can lay off bush a little considering its a lot easier for kerry to sit there in hind sight and say things are bad and all messed up and that iraq was just a big mistake. thats awesome, but i have more respect for Bush who can stand up and defend the action he took, cause hell, anyone can stand in the peanut gallery and point out mistakes.
Plus, don't even get me started on everyones, by in large, source of information, the liberal midea! don't you think your information will be a bit biased comin from major stations and that hate bush as much as you do?
yeah, im probably not going to vote for bush, but all this bashing makes me have more and more sympathy, so please continue...lead someone who is on your side furthur and furthur away!

Posted by: Joseph at September 14, 2004 03:43 PM"right to carry guns anywhere" actually bush just let a bill expire that banned the sale of many assult weapons. (Star tribune, September 14th)
As for "supporting same sex marriage" both candidates are against it, kerry only being slightly less against it, in that he supports civil unions and letting the states decide. Both are on the record as being against gay marriage however.
Posted by: weav0097 at September 14, 2004 05:08 PMI can definitely relate to the author when it comes to politics. However, I can’t imagine how someone can claim to be “ignorant and uninformed when it comes to politics” and have such a strong desire for one side (Bush) to win the upcoming election. I think that this argument lack the necessary evidence to back up why Bush should win. I mean why would having Bush in office for another four years be “best for the country”? It is true that “America is not an anarchy”. But I’m all for freedom of choice. Given that the government needs to have some control (i.e. stopping murderers, drug dealers, etc.) over the population, I believe that the government should not have the power to regulate abortion, same-gender marriages, and the use of marijuana for medicinal purposes. Abortion for example. Some would agree that having an abortion is the same as taking a life. Suppose that the government intervenes and abortion is now illegal because it would “endanger a life”. Where would the interventions stop? Should we stop the mother from dieting or exercising just because there is a risk of harming the unborn baby? I say all of this with the utmost respect to the author.
Respectfully,

Well, I'm not COMPLETELY uninformed. I at least have a vague idea of current issues and what people stand for. I am for Bush so much because I feel if the war on terror thing is interrupted, the terrorists will jump on us and Iraq like a mountain lion on a sleeping goat. My guess is that they are employing a very effective strategy - run away and hide until the public grows tired of the chase and decides to stop the war thing, then strike as soon as our guard is back down. And repeat.
Posted by: Joel Gardner at September 16, 2004 09:31 PMWhen it comes to everyone's opinions on how Bush handled the war, it is upsetting to see that there are so many people against it altogether. I believe that if you had a loved one that was killed on sept. 11, you too would seek a certain revenge. They attacked our country, our freedom and our dignity. Although it my not be entirely due to Bush's war on terror, I think that some people do side with Kerry for the wrong reasons, as others have previously brought up in this blog before. I have not decided who to vote for, but I am leaning towards Kerry because of his open minded-ness. He believes in giving the states more power, and giving the American people more freedoms and choices, instead of having everything he personally doesn't stand for illegal.
