Don't Ask, Don't Tell

Don't ask, Don't tell is an extremely archaic policy that needs to be removed. At a time when our nation fighting a pretty big war that just seems to keep getting more and more complicated, our government is turning down people who would like to do their part in the war. Why? Because they are gay. You'd think the government would take anyone that is willing and able to fight for their cause, but no, they turn down people simply because they happen to love people of the same gender. There is no real reason for the ban on gays in the military, except perhaps that it might make the straight men uncomfortable. But then, shouldn't killing another human being make them uncomfortable, so shouldn't that be banned too? Banning gays is no different than banning women, its still a ban on something a person because of something they have absolutely no control over. The government could never get away with banning women, blacks, jews, or any other minority without major backlash from society, but it is able to get away with it when it comes to gays. It's just another example of government sanctioned homophobia helping to perpetuate the stereotypes that plague the gay community, and yet another slap in the face telling us we're not as good as the rest of the world.

i totally agree with you. i think there is this misconception that just because people are gay means that they are going to hit on every person of the same gender that they see. Homosexuals are not any more sexually motivated than Heterosexuals. And i think this misconception has lead to people being afraid of letting gay people into the military

It is exactly what the government wants...the governement doesn't care about gays...they don't care about gay rights...as far as the government is concerned they would just rather leave us gay people in the dark alone and with nothing...gee does that sound familiar...aka slavery etc. discrimination...this is all provoked by a simple misconception that gay people are wrong and mental...some of the best people in the world are gay...being gay, does that mean that im just gonna walk up to you and start hitting on you...ABSOLUTELY NOT!!! ... most people don't even know about me...and I couldn't give a damn more or less if they did because it doesn't matter what I do in MY bedroom at night does it? Take a minute to think about that....think about all the hate and torture that GLBT persons have to go through ... do you believe that 1 out of 3 gay lesbian or bisexual youths from 15-24 WILL KILL THEMSELVES that's just what we need is the government creating hysteria and homophobia among gay people...its just wrong but it can be stopped by setting aside petty differences and just treating everyone with the respect that they deserve its that simple...people dont make fun of people for fucking the opposite sex...why should they do it for same sex...what does it matter...all it does is create tension and violence in a world that simply DOES NOT need any more...

Although I don't think homosexuals should be allowed to be legally married, I do think they should be allowed to get the kind of job they want, including in the military. I have not heard of this 'don't ask don't tell' principle before now and I think it is silly. BEING homosexual is not controllable and is not wrong, however ACTING homosexual is controllable and it is wrong (in my opinion), therefore being homosexual should not prevent one from joining the military although acting it could get them kicked out if people are bothered by it.

Can someone explain to me how you act homosexual? i don't go around accusing people of acting heterosexual.

I think that it's really sad if you do start to target people and not give them a job because of their sexuality. I have nothing against homosexuals because it's how they are and we can't just hate on them because of that. I think this country just needs to focus more at what's important than little things that wouldn't do any of us any harm.
