Has this happened to anyone else the past couple days? I was sitting around at the Student Center and then there were a couple people conducting a voting survey and they wanted to know how many students were going to vote in this year's election. The survey had questions about who you were voting for and what are some issues that mean the most to you. The troubling thing for me was that the people conducting this survey were wearing shirts that said (pardon my language) "Fuck Bush." Now, I don't know about you but if I were to vote for Bush and someone came up to me asking me to fill out their survey while wearing "Fuck Bush" shirts, I would feel a little uncomfortable about it. I would rather hear about why they didn't like Bush instead of a "fuck Bush" t-shirt because they didn't give their view about why they feel like that. I don't know, can anyone comment on this?
Posted by rega0079 at October 11, 2004 10:50 PM | TrackBackNow I am a Kerry fan, and I find the T-shirts funny, but I don't think if someone is conducting a real non-biest survey they shouldn't even give their opion to you. Just ask you questions and then say thank you for your time.
Posted by: Amanda at October 12, 2004 08:09 AMI know what you mean I went to get a voter registration form at Coffman Union. When I found the lady she asked me if I was voting for Bush I said yes because I didn't know what she would have done to me if I said no. Now is that peer presure or what?
Posted by: Anders Lindberg at October 12, 2004 01:15 PMYea i agree with you Jeff. Why doesnt the university ban such rude outbursts. I like Bush I am going to vote for with, but I thought that what they were doing was a little border line. Does she really think that T-Shirst that say "Fu@! Bush is going to influnce people to vote for Kerry.
Posted by: Josh Tyra at October 12, 2004 08:43 PMIf a person is conducting a surbey, they shouldn't wear anything that gives away their bias, otherwise it could potentially scare off people who are of a different view point, which would skew their data, most likely in their favor. All this bashing is just going to turn people off from voting.
Posted by: Tom Weaver at October 12, 2004 09:20 PMIt's weird that they would do that because if you look at it from their point of view, they aren't going to like it if somebody went up to them and wore a shirt that said "____ Kerry." They should respect everyones opinions and try not to do things to others and offend others if they don't like it being done to them.
Posted by: thaox075 at October 14, 2004 04:02 PMWhy does it matter whether or not they wear a Fuck Bush shirt or not? If you are going to vote, you should feel strongly enough that you aren't going to change your opinions for other people. Besides, a fuck bush shirt is meant to be funny. I support Kerry and if someone is wearing a fuck kerry shirt, more power to them.as long as they can back up what they think, it's cool.
Posted by: andrew at November 3, 2004 02:47 PMWell, I have sold about 1600 Fuck Bush shirts since February. It is funny that people get offended and people think that I would get mad if they said Fuck Kerry. Honestly I should have sold Fuck Kerry shirts as well. I would of been able to hit both parties this way and sell more shirts. But I felt Bush was the worst of the two evils and stuck it to him. I don't know why someone would take it personal with an attack on the president. Does anyone think the president would care if someone said something about you? I don't know sorry if the shirts have offended anyone. I was just getting out the Pro Hetro message. And I am gone...
Posted by: Red Samuri at November 11, 2004 04:33 PMAlright, this pissed me off when I saw that shirt outside St. Paul Student Center after our Rhetoric class. That was completely unnecessary! The problem was that even before I could even say a single word to the girl that was wearing it, or even hear something she had to say I had already made a bad judgement of her for even wearing such a bold shirt. Granted there are people who were passionate for their Presidential Candidate but to take it that far and use profane language in a matter to insult a human. I understand that there are people who do not like Bush simply because it is George Bush, but is it really necessary to take it as far as to subject voting citizens, whether for or against Bush, to a shirt that insults a person with such harshness. Well I guess all I really have to say is that the shirt was complete bullshit. And I say bullshit because if they can say "Fuck Bush" then I should be able to call it bullshit because turns out George won. Sorry but the votes have been counted and there's goin to be 4 more years of the W' around.
