I wanted to comment on a previous post this week because I find that I can write comments better then my own topics. I stopped and thought about what was on my mind and found that our countries current position in foreign affairs has cause one of my good friends that I graduated with to be diverted Iraq and now one of my three roommates is being called up by his army reserve division to “aid those in hostile territories”. I sit here and feel worried about the future of my friends and also realize that about three years ago when I was in my first week of high school the morning of Sep. 11 all the T.V. in the school came on with the news of a terrible accident and then the truth of a terrible attack. While I feel that life is far more precious than any other thing on this earth. People have fought and died for us to retain our freedoms and our way of life has always continued. Our present fight against terror will be no different I see our country prevailing together and again improving life as we know it. I see a lot of people who feel that our fight should not have been started, but I just can’t forget that “a group” along with many other groups in the past have attacked our way of life. They took thousands of innocent lives to make their message and I know every American felt it as I did. With all the bull shit surrounding the war I am happy to say I can see good being done and I feel we will leave a positive impact when finished with our goals of stopping mass terror. I understand that we cannot rid the world of terror because of human nature it will always exist, but I do feel it is important for our country to show our seriousness towards planned mass murder. As for my friend in the line of harm I hope to see them again soon and hear first hand about the good our country can bring
Posted by graf0135 at October 14, 2004 05:28 PM | TrackBackIt always sucks to see someone you know or love go off fighting for their country. One can argue the fact that this war is pointless because there is no such thing as an end to terrorism. there will always be terroristic events happening. One can also argue that, like you wrote, by sending troops over, it does help with planned terroristic attacks and puts some minds at ease having troops over fighting terrorism. The one fact that can be stated is that the ones that are gone and the ones who gave their lives to fight for their country are missed and always will be. thats why war is so hard. its because of all the families of the people fighting in the war.

But what really irritates me is that people still think the war in Iraq is related to the war on terror. ** There was NO link between Al Qieda and Saddam Hussein. ** The FBI and CIA reports clearly show this.
The war in Iraq is arguably about either liberating the Iraqi people or their oil, depending on who you ask. But it is NOT related to the war on terror - no matter how hard Cheney wishes it to be so.
Posted by: Matt Tyler at October 16, 2004 12:41 AMI agree with what you have to say on the way our lifestyle was attacked and how they had to take many lives in order to get their point across. It was a terrible incident, but at the same time it really brought our country together. I had never seen so many flags flying as I did in the months following the attack. I just feel it is unneccessary that we take even more lives in the aftermath. Something has to be done on terrorism..but I dont really understand how we are fighting terrorism in Iraq. We weren't attacked by Iraq or Saddam Hussein (at least no evidence has been brought to support whether or not he had a hand in it). I know many people that have been called to fight as well and it is terribly sad to know that I may never see them again over a cause that I am not sure is real...
Posted by: M. Larson at October 17, 2004 03:26 PMI agree that as much as the current administration WISHES this to be a war on terror, the war in Iraq is definitely not at all related to the "war on terror."

Posted by: Mike Ayers at October 20, 2004 07:33 PMI believe that we are currently fighting a war on terror in Iraq, but it's not the same one the administration led us to believe. There is plenty of terror in Iraq, it may just not have been our place to end it.
