Bush's Speech: Another crock of shit?

One may ponder such a question after seeing President Bush's "victory" speech. After listening to yet another uncertain speech from the President, I am not suprised that the next four years won't be any more painless than the last four. In fact, I think that the next four years will be ludacris. More job loss, more economic woes and well the worst, more War. "America has spoken and I am humbled by the trust and confidence vested in me as your President," stated Bush in his speech. I don't think this is true at all. I am not confident, and I really don't trust this man at all. In fact that is a lie, I am more scared now than I was over the last four years. What are we going to do now? I dunno, I think I am gonna go get some cheap liquor.

Yes, his speech is a crock of shit.

Most politicians lie, and Bush does so profusely.

But don't let him turn you into an alcoholic. I've seen too many disappointed progressives turn to the bottle and never recover. Walk around the West Bank of Minneapolis sometime and you will see what I mean.

No, in the face of adversity the best course is not despair.

A friend of mine who has been in Palestine once told me of an encounter she had with a Palestinian ambulance driver. This man had been surrounded by death his whole life, and yet in the midst of a siege by Isreali troops he and my friend laughed and sang late into the night. Finally she asked him, "How can you be laughing at a time like this?" "Our laughter is all we've got, they can't take that away" he replied.

Bush may well ruin this country, but don't let him ruin your liver.

On the question of what to do now, I have no concrete answer. What I will say is that the Democratic party needs to come up with a compelling long term vision for America. They do not have one. The Republicans have one. The libertarians have one. The Green Party has one. But the Democrats do not. I have some ideas that I am pondering, but they are not developed enough to share just yet. Look for a post on this subject in the future.
