GM foods, if the U.S. actually took the time to introduce them around the globe, could effectively fight world hunger. To me, its not really a question of whether or not its moral, since I believe that over time it will have to happen. I mean, if you considered what the world would be like if no one ever persued something that was immoral (a science), I think we're better off just letting it happen. The only qualm I have about it is the ability to control these different crop types from cross-pollination, and making sure pests don' t somehow develop immunities to the different effects of hybrid plants.
Posted by dosda007 at December 10, 2004 5:15 PM | TrackBackGM foods can contain genes from animals or plants. A concern whould be how to prevent someone from eating a GM food and having an allergic reaction to it because it contains the gene of a food source that the person is allergic to. Also, what are the long term repercussions of ingesting the combination of a mixed gene food?
Posted by: Shari Lynne at December 12, 2004 2:50 PMWith GM foods you have to not only make sure that allergic reactions do not occur, but you also have to make sure with what your doing will not have serious implications. In the religious aspect, you need to make sure with what your doing will not have a significant aftermath.
Posted by: Casey at December 14, 2004 2:20 AMThe health aspect of GM foods is unknown in the long term. And before the loing term affects of GM foods is known I dont feel it is an advancement that needs to be used. I am an advocate of making sure that modified genes are researched to the fullest extent before being released to the public. If all procautions are not taken then we can plan on dealing with the consequenses of getting ahead of ourselves in the role god, something we should not be attempting in the first place.
