Bush and baseball

This is an article desribing Bush's opinion about illegal drugs used in baseball and what action the sport should take. Aparently, he included this in his January address. He feels that the teams should impose stricter penalties for players that use illegal performance enhancing drugs and that their use by professional sports players undermines 'the efforts of parents and coaches to send the right message' to their youthful players and children. Do you think this is something that Bush as president should include in his presidential address? For those unaware, he was part owner in a team, the Texas Rangers.

yeah why not?! he is responsible for the country's reputation ( which he doesnt always do well, just my opinion based on the fact that over 80% of the rest of the world didn't want him to return to office...) anyways and well the use of drugs in people who are considered role models in the eyes of our country need to learn that with that role their are consequences if you dont follow the rules. they all sign contracts at the beginning of their career saying they wont do this or that and if they break that then yeah they need to be punished.

I think its right to put a stop to drugs in baseball. There's a lot of it going on and you can see it. When a guy gains 50 pounds of muscle in 2 years, that would question how it came about like that. I think things go unnoticed because baseball players have a lot of money. My hats off to Bush.

I feel as though it is the responsability of the MLB to enforce a more severe punishment for the use of steroids. It is the MLB's reputation that is on the line. I really don't see how the President has any reason to get involved with a professional baseball league. He has enough to deal with as it is.

I think our president definitely should address this. People across our country and even across the world look up to these players. By these athletes making poor decision it reflects poorly on what our countries' people look up to. Athletes are huge role models and need to start taking up that responsibility.

No, I do not feel this is something that should be adressed in the presedential adress. This has nothing to do with the real problems in the United States. The problem of steriods is present but there are far more important things to focus on in a presidential adress. The problems on the baseball field should stay within the MLB association and they should take it upon themselves to figure out penalties and regulations. By the president getting involved he is making the problem bigger than it really is.

I think the MLB gives the U.S. a reputation so I also believe that the president has the right to address the drug problem. I also believe more action should be taken against professional players and drugs. It is not exactly fair that they get a slap on the hand in the form of suspension and a fine. If I do drugs I get locked up for years as well as a fine. Are professional players above the law?

I think that Bush should step in and do somthing about the steroid use in baseball and other sports. For startes it makes the us look bad to other nations since all of our track athlets and geting in trouble. Also it tarnishes the image of the all american sport to the rest of the world. Also all the health down fall associated with steriod use is one reason that they should be baned.
