Posted by: Kreatyny at November 7, 2011 3:15 AMOne more issue is that video games can be serious as the name indicated with the key focus on finding out rather than leisure. Although, it has an entertainment aspect to keep children engaged, just about every game will likely be designed to work towards a specific group of skills or curriculum, such as mathematics or scientific discipline. Thanks for your publication.

I think that you could do with some pics to drive the message home a little bit, but other than that, this is great blog. A great read. I will certainly be back.

Posted by: Richard Sickels at January 15, 2011 1:38 AMMy Husband and I just finished going through your site. While I do not entirely agree with you on every thing. I do believe you still made a number of very interesting points. Furthermore, you should consider your self lucky that I am in a very good mood today due to the fact I usually do not commonly leave a comment on peoples site. Whilst I am here I might as well wish you an early Happy New Year!

Unusual Wrap of Text Below Nav Bar
You'll see that the text flows to the left to fill all the space below the navigation bar. This is new to me, but is highly praised by Bruce Reeves. He likes that it lets the text use all the space that's available to it. It eliminates the big empty strip running all the way down the page below the navigation bar.
This was odd to my eye at first, but I find it OK now. It can be changed if people don't like it.
I'm just posting this note to let you know the "why" of it, and encourage you to not think it's a "goof."
Posted by: Karen Plass at August 19, 2005 5:30 PMThanks, all, for comments.
Last night (8/18), I could not get the text to behave properly in the second blue bar (at the top of the page)! Two lines of text that were supposed to "float right" insisted on piling up on top of the words at the left.
This morning, Bruce Reeves figured out what the problem(s) were, so - for now, at least - it displays properly. Even when the window is made narrow, the header text should behave better, so you can still see what you are reading and clicking.
Bruce, I think the above problem is what you meant in #2 in your post. If you were describing a different problem, please let me know.
I added links to programs from the content on the home page.
I removed the pale logo image from the content background. I really liked it, but it made our pages a bit "busy." Since we will be adding photos, later, we probably don't need it - and it was generating a lot of divergent opinions, as to how bright it should be, where in the content it should appear, etc.
Bruce commented that the logo text in the nav bar was fuzzy. For that reason (which is because is a resized image), I am adding a larger version of our logo to one or two pages (home and/or about us). (The image of the larger logo will go up, or back up, but I'm not done playing with the size and location yet).
Bruce, if we add "Related Programs," what would be in it? Certificate Programs for sure. What else? Licensure? Would we put the Grad Programs link in there (maybe instead of having it as a separate link - or we could have a link in each location)?
At long last, the cascading style sheets are working on all tested browsers! :)
FYI, I plan to do some more cleaning up of the code, and will then get back to working on content.
Posted by: Karen Plass at August 19, 2005 2:43 PMFYI, this was emailed by Leigh McMullen - our first comment from the department staff:
I find the new web site to be user friendly. Great layout, I am able to quickly locate information. Line reading is easy to follow with the color change. Gotta go - more work to do.
Overall, I continue to like the look of this, the ease of navigation, and the categories being used.
A few notes on this version:
1) Depending on the size of the browser window, the text can end up wrapped in ways that make it difficult to read. Especially as it wraps around the links in the upper left.
2) I'd modify the linked words/phrases on the page. Some appear too long - as if there's an issue with choosing font colors.
3) I'm not so sure we should have a category of "related programs", but I am curious how others feel.
4) IF we want to list the programs on the dept home page, I think the list should also link to the specific program page.
Oops, interrupted by a meeting so I've lost my train of thought.
Bruce
Thanks again, Karen, for all your hard work on this site! It's really coming together. I can talk to you in person, as it may be easier, but a couple of quick things:
I'd recommend that even though you have links to each of the programs in your menu bar on the left, when you list each of the programs on the main page (http://www.d.umn.edu/educ/anewwebsite/), also have the names of the programs be links there, too.
Also, on the main page there is a strange overlapping effect when I click back to it after visiting other pages. I took a screen shot so you can see what I mean -- I'll e-mail it to you.
