Sandiganbayan Umali Valencia

An unfortunate scandal in the Philippines from 1994 is coming to the surface now.

Oriental Mindoro representatives Rodolfo Valencia (First District) and Alfonso Umali Jr. (Second District) have a warrant for their arrest, after disregarding their sentences regarding corrupt practices. The bench warrant has been issued by Justice Gregory Ong.

In total, six have been accused of graft charges for illegal distribution of P2.5 million in funds from the Oriental Mindoro provincial government back in January of 1994. Five of the men were accused of the accessory penalty perpetual disqualification from holding their public offices.

Currently, Umali is a member of the Commission on Appointments while Valencia acts as the Chairman of the House Committee on housing / urban development. Umali's lawyers are fighting the conviction and bench warrant. However when Umali appears at court he will be jailed until a further hearing which decides his bail amount. He already paid the P30,000 bail filed with the Sandiganbayan and the next bail amount figures to be much greater than that figure.

This issue is already past and now everything is smooth like before.
