If you are a FreeBSD user and have an opinion on potential functionality you feel should be used, submit your proposal.

FreeBSD Foundation had a great 2012, with a large amount of donations coming to cap off a busy year. At the moment, they are working on implementing the ability to boot FreeBSD in the Unified Extensible Firmware Interface boot environment (or UEFI).

Funky looking creatures, sometimes bad sometimes good. The good ones join your forces and have their own Ability Link grid.
Visually, this is quite a game to behold. The 3D aspect is well done as the graphics are stunning. The story is what you would expect.

Been having a great time with Dragon Quest V DS Hand of the Heavenly Bride lately. Firsts thoughts while playing this game is how this did not make it to America. For the Super Nintendo in 1992 this would have rivaled Final Fantasy IV in quality (which was Final Fantasy II stateside). Might not have sold as well, but at the same time Final Fantasy was struggling until FF2 hit the SNES market. But I digress.

Classic gameplay in Dragon Quest V DS, with the real difference being that you can randomly recruit monsters that you have defeated before (sometimes many times before, and you need a Wagon to do this). With the dozens of monsters you recruit, you'll notice that the monsters have access to some of the best spells early on. Of note though is that monsters with a Wisdom ranking under 20 will not follow your orders all the time.

The story is well done here, the first time where a Dragon Quest really has had an active plot (though Dragon Warrior IV made strides especially for an 8-bit NES game). A huge addition to this game is the Party Talk feature, something that has added 1000's of extra lines of character development. At any time that you have control of the Hero you can press B to listen to what your party mates say (or open up the menu and just 'talk'). This is great for reminding you what you might need to be doing, and to get to know more about your human and monster allies. Sadly, this was taken out of the American version of Dragon Quest IV DS.

The Dragon Quest V 5 DS Walkthrough follows through the 1st Generation as the Hero is younger, and into the later generations as he becomes more formidable and is able to recruit monsters and outfit himself with Zenithian equipment.

The new Shin Megami Tensei release for the DS might be my favorite DS game so far ( Shin Megami Tensei Devil Survivor Walkthrough ). It is close, with Final Fantasy IV, Dragon Quest IV and Suikoden Tierkreis. But Devil Survivor puts a unique twist on Tactical RPG's.

If you have played Persona 3, you know about Social Links and managing your time to see certain people's storyline. Shin Megami Tensei Devil Survivor is a lot like this in that you have a certain amount of time during the day, but many characters to visit (anywhere from 2-8). Throughout the day you will have battles at various locations, and sometimes you'll miss certain battles / scenes if you do not know where to go ahead of time. In turn it is easy to miss playable characters in this game, as you have to save them / recruit them in certain time windows.

Battles flow quickly. You will have 3 or 4 ally unit leaders, and the unit leaders can have up to two demons in each group. If the leader dies, the whole unit is gone (same for enemy units). You buy demons with the money you acquire from battles. They can use the same abilities that the ally leaders have (the humans). It is typical SMT-fare, as you have to cover up your elemental weaknesses and exploit the enemies. Some of the bosses are extremely difficult if you don't know what you're doing, notably the demon lords fighting to be King of Bel. For help with bosses and a walkthrough through the game, check out the Shin Megami Tensei Devil Survivor Guide.

Lots of images added, or images altered to be more bright / visible. Formatting has been changed. Additional strategies / walkthroughs have been added for characters and stages.

Wu characters that have a musou mode in Dynasty Warriors 6 (PS3 / Xbox360) are Lu Xun, Zhou Yu, Sun Shang Xiang, Gan Ning and Sun Jian. .

Lu Xun starts his musou mode in the later years of Wu, after they have taken control of east Wu thanks to Sun Ce, Zhou Yu, Huang Gai and the like. Lu Xun begins his work for Wu battling Wei at the Battle of Chi Bi. But his role is not prominent at this point. It is just a bit later, after Zhou Yu dies, that Lu Xun takes control. He leads Wu in the battle for Jing, and then the battle of Fan Castle to take out Guan Yu. After this though Shu wants revenge, but Lu Xun's greatest moment is at Yi Ling as the fire attack planned by Lu Xun and Zhu Ran routs Shu's forces. Lu Xun's cunning does not end there. He then tricks Cao Xiu at the Battle of Shi Ting, with a fake surrender from Zhou Fang. Finally, Lu Xun leads Wu through He Fei Castle to best Wei. Dynasty Warriors 6 Lu Xun guide concludes.

In Suikoden Tierkreis, you will come about a room where you fight 'Dreambeasts' - battles against tough monsters that are simulated by this room thanks to Nuzhat of the Magedom. Nuzhat was banished from the Magedom of Janam as Rizwan takes over the Arcane Academy.

Suikoden Tierkreis Dreambeasts are not easy - the battles are long with several thousand HP, though most are tame enough not to threaten your party too much (that said most battles in Tierkreis are easy, so..). Sadly, the EXP they yield is insignificant; certainly not enough to warrant using the Dreambeasts as a means of leveling up.

Dreambeasts can drop important items / weapons. Netherhorn / Avian Shreks / Roaring Bird drops the Netherlion Horn. The Snow Demon Dream Beast has been known to drop the Fenrir Sword. The drop rate for these rare items is very low, so even fighting the Dreambeasts it may take a while to get these items.

You can get a Dreambeast room at your own HQ in Tierkreis. You need to recruit Nuzhat for this. You will see Nuzhat make some comments as you are leaving the Magedom early on. After splitting from the Magedom, go to the Salsabil 'residence'. You see will Nuzhat here. If you bring Mubal the Chronicle guy, he will make a comment to Nuzhat about joining your army. However, you also need to have the 'lift' working to recruit Nuzhat. For this you need to recruit Balsam and recruit Yod from the Grayridge Mine. Once you get Balsam and Yod on your army, just talk to Nuzhat with Mubal in your party and Nuzhat will join. You then appear at your HQ as Nuzhat gets the basement ready to be the Dreambeast room at your HQ.

After a bit of work, the Suikoden Tierkreis Walkthrough and a separate section has been created to list how to recruit all 108 Starbearers by order of appearance. A lot of characters were tricky without a guide and several are missable. Following a guide by order of recruitment is a nice way to ensure you have no problems :) The battles in Tierkreis certainly didn't provide much challenge.

I've started to warm up to Tierkreis while doing the Suikoden Tierkreis Walkthrough Guide. Sure it's annoying having another typical JRPG Hero and his kiddie friends. Hero is somewhere between Tidus and Vaan, with his 'we don't know until we try' attitude towards everything. The rest of the cast is done well enough, and the voice acting for most of them is something to appreciate. The opening doesn't drag on really, as the party starts exploring early on and runs into The Order of the One True Way. They are interesting antagonists, and you learn a lot about their followers in Grayridge and eventually Cynas. Seems there is an opposing group too that the Hero begins to lead at the Forest Ruins, members that can touch a book and gain Mark of the Stars power.

Gameplay hasn't been difficult at all so far, even the few bosses fought. It's a different twist having a counting MP stat instead of level-based rune spells, and plus you can just buy / equip weapons which is very un-Suikoden like. Makes it seem more like standard RPG fare, not necessarily a bad thing though as it has enough of a Suikoden touch to remind you what you're playing.

Follow the guide above for recruiting characters. From the sounds of it, there will be plenty of miss-able characters out of the 108 Stars of Destiny.

Rune Walsh joins early on, showing up at the destroyed village of Molcum. Alys quickly recognizes him and seems in awe of his presence, though how the two know each other is not detailed. Shortly after joining you, Rune's power is obvious. He has dangerous magic skills no one in your party has seen, and Hahn's techniques pale in comparison to Rune.

Rune leaves the party early on, but comes back later after the 'Alys event'. He stays in your party for good, and you learn a bit more about this mysterious wizard's past. Hard to believe the sixth generation Lutz is this arrogant, but this is confirmed at the Esper Mansion on Planet Dezolis. Chaz's quest becomes more clear at this point, with the wizard Rune at your side. Rune is arguably the most valuable member of your party (not to say that Rika / Chaz / Raja are slouches though).

Like Hahn Mahlay, Rune is best-equipped with two shields. His cane is so weak not to mention it requires two hand slots. Just not worth the defensive drawback. Giving him two shields early on makes him an absolute terror to penetrate with his already impregnable magic defense. Rune has a ton of technique points at his disposal, and plenty of skills to use. He gets the absolute best techniques and probably skills too. No healing skills, but they can't make him perfect. He even has Hinas and Ryuka to exit out of caves / teleport around the world.

Note that Rune is already at level 17 when he joins.

Rune's Skills
Flaeli -

Hewn -

Diem -

Tandle -

Efess -

Negatis -

Legeon - It takes until level 35 for Rune to learn Legeon, but it's hard to complain about this skill.

Rune's Techniques
Hinas - starts with this technique.
Ryuka - starts with this technique.
Wat - starts with this technique.
Arows - starts with this technique.

Hahn Mahlay is a 24 year old scholar at Motavia Academy. Most of the early findings in the story for Chaz and Alys are found by Hahn. Bio-monsters are discovered at the Motavia Academy in Piata, and then the party sets off to find Alshline to restore Dr. Holt, who has all the answers according to Hahn.

In battle, Hahn is very weak physically. He can become more powerful offensively with two knives, but is far too vulnerable defensively with that strategy. You are better served to give him two shields and have him use techniques like Wat, and use him as a healer.

Hahn is actually one of the better candidates at the end of the game when you have to choose between Kyra, Raja, Gryz and Demi. Raja is an absurd healer and really only he should be considered. But Hahn has all sorts of instant-death attacks, along with attack and healing magic.

Hahn's Skills
Vision - A somewhat useful skill that Hahn starts off with at level 1. It makes your party more alert, increasing dexterity and likelihood of attaining a critical hit. Definitely helps for early bosses to use it and then start spamming Wat with Hahn.

Astral and Eliminate - Astral and Eliminate always confused me, since they do the same thing; instant death for the enemy. And Hahn has a few Vol techniques anyway. Clearly, Hahn is deadly. He learns Astral at level 29 and Eliminate at 30.

Hahn's Techniques
Gelun - starts with this technique.
Res - starts with this technique.
Wat - Hahn learns this at level 3
Anti - Hahn learns this at level 6.
Doran - Hahn learns this at level 7.
Zan - Hahn learns this at level 9.
Vol - Hahn learns this at level 10.
Gires - Hahn learns this at level 11.
Rimpa - Hahn learns this at level 12.
Rimit - Hahn learns this at level 13.
Giwat - Hahn learns this at level 16.
