Week 9:
I thought that this weeks readings were very interesting and insightful. I feel that Week's was right on with many of the topics that he brought forth in the article. I agreed the most with Weeks in his article when he talked about how you perceive others and vise-versa.I think that this is a key point to remember when being a leader in a group for the simple fact that you must be respected as a leader before you will have any control over the situation or your employee's, and thier perceptions of you are a large part of that process.

Week 10
The readings for this week were a little confusing at times for me, there were a few parts of the readings that I thought were a little tough to get through. However I thought for the most part it was a good article. My thoughts on what a leader should be haven't changed much over the course of this class, although I do feel that they have become more specific and less of a general definition. I never thought about the authenticity factor before this weeks reading and I think that it is a very important part of what a leader is. After doing the readings for this week I think it really made me take a step back and ask myself, what is truly ethical or moral? I think that a leader needs to poses strong morals to lead a group of people, and without reading this article that is something that without a doubt I would have overlooked.
I still don't feel that I have to change my definition of what a leader is. However this weeks readings were more focused on the fact that a leader just has to take control and that the majority of the power is on one person and one person only. For an example in the readings McGrath (1964) states that it is the leaders role to what needs the team is faced with and what needs to be done to make the group successful.

This allows more people to take control over the situation and show how each one of the leaders use their strengths to get a job done.

I thought that the readings for this week were interesting. I have said al along that I think there are many different types of leaders and I still feel that way. However after reading the article by Kouzes and Posner I now feel that the qualities that I felt separate some leaders also help to make one individual an even stronger leader. I also really liked the statement made by Jim Whittaker when he said that you can not conquer a mountain, you have to conquer yourself. The meaning of this for me is that you have to have confidence in yourself and feel comfortable with yourself before you can truely lead people.

Well I'm sorry that I have not posted for the last couple of weeks I have been really busy and I have been traveling a lot this sumer already. I almost forgot that I was even in a summer class until one of my group members emailed me about the reading discussions. Anyway since this is my first post I thought I would tell you how I view leaders. I think that there are many different kinds of leaders. There are the leaders that take charge and take control over the situation. Then there are leaders that are not necessarily in charge of a group but they are always there when you need them. Another type of leader I feel is just the all around "good guy", some to model your life after. So that is how I fell about leadership to this point next week we will see if or how it changes.
