Eagan man who decapitated stepmother found insane

An Eagan man who decapitated his 68-year-old stepmother has been ruled insane and will undertake psychiatric treatment at a secure facility.
The judge's order states Stephen Miles suffered a "defect of reason" and, while guilty of murder, had no idea his actions were wrong when he hit Maris Jo Miles in the head with a hatchet and removed her head with a kitchen knife, according to the Star Tribune.
The not-guilty ruling issued by the Dakota County Court after prosecution and defense agreed Miles did not know right from wrong when he murdered his stepmom, according to the Pioneer Press.
According to the 23-page ruling, Miles was diagnosed with "extreme paranoia" in 1998.
