Discovering Goan Identity:

Goa is the smallest and youngest state of the Indian Union with a population of about 1.3million people. Goa has become known internationally as India’s the premier hotspots for its long sandy, palm tree-lined beaches, warm tropical breeze, and accommodating tourist environment. However, Goa is much more than the average beach town. With a complex history of Portuguese colonial influence and rule, Goa becomes also a site of historical and cultural significance in the studies of colonialism. In my investigation, I plan to research the history of colonization of Goa and assess the ongoing cultural legacy that the Portuguese colonial influences continue to have on the state today.
