salamanders losing state amphibian race to frogs
I get emails from time to time when bills are introduced in state legislatures to designate a state amphibian. While several states, Delaware and Ohio for instance, are in the process of designating a state amphibian, many already have a state amphibian. Wikipedia shows that with 14 states reporting in, the frogs have the edge leading 8 to 6. In the near furture, Delaware is moving towards making the Shenandoah Mountain Salamander (Plethodon Virginia) it's state amphibian while Ohio is moving towards designating the American Bullfrog. For the time being, it looks like the frogs have it.
