While paging through "1000 Symbols- What shapes mean in art & myth" by Rowena and Rupert Shepard, I came upon the entry for salamander under mythological creatures.  The image, minus a crown, looks very familiar to the image used by the King Francis I of France that I blogged about some time ago. The short entry on the salamander stated the familiar myth that a salamander is resistant to fire.

The book isn't meant to be read cover to cover but I found the sections I did read, particularly the part on tree symbols, very interesting. I would recommend it for those looking to develop logos or similar activities.
