John Berry is the federal government's chief "people person." As the director of the U. S. Office of Personnel Management (OPM), he is responsible for recruiting, hiring, and setting benefits policies for 1.9 million federal civilian employees.
Recently, President Obama challenged Berry to make government service "cool" again. Last December, the President issued an executive order directing the OPM to create a faster, easier pathway to public service for students and recent graduates. The proposed Pathways Programs would improve recruiting and provide for training, mentoring, and career development opportunities.
