A CANDID CONVERSATION WITH THE CHIEFS

Date: Tuesday, July 17, 2012
Time: 4:30pm

Hosted At: 16th Floor Conference Center of Leonard Street & Deinard, 150 South Fifth Street.

Thanks to the efforts of the Hennepin County Bar Association's Bench & Bar Committee, the HCBA's New Lawyers' Section, and several of the area's top firms, you will have the opportunity to hear from, and talk to, a panel of the "Chiefs". Specifically, U.S. District Court - District of Minnesota Chief Judge Michael Davis, Minnesota Supreme Court Chief Justice Lorie Gildea, Court of Appeals Chief Judge Matt Johnson, and Hennepin County Assistant Chief Judge Peter Cahill will talk to you about a host of issues relevant to new (and soon to be new) lawyers.

This panel discussion is geared toward summer associates, law clerks, interns, and newer lawyers throughout the legal community, including those in private practice, corporations, the courts, Legal Aid, and those in all areas of public service. The discussion, which will be moderated by Hennepin County District Court Judge Jay Quam, will encompass issues ranging from advice on effective practice in the various courts to the judges' views of how the profession is likely to change in the upcoming years. Following the discussion you will have the opportunity to attend a reception and talk to the panelists and other judges.

The discussion has been approved for one hour of standard CLE credit.

Registration begins at 4:15 p.m., with the discussion from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. A reception will follow the discussion.

We hope you can attend. Please RSVP by July 11, 2012 here.

SKADDEN FELLOWS FELLOWSHIP

SKADDEN FELLOWS FELLOWSHIP

Susan Butler Plum, director of the foundation, works closely with an Advisory Committee, comprised of a dozen partners from all U.S. Skadden, Arps offices, to administer the program. The Advisory Committee is chaired by Lauren E. Aguiar, a partner in the New York office. The members of the Advisory Committee participate actively in interviewing applicants and are central to the success of the foundation and its high visibility within the firm. Applicants must secure a potential position with a sponsoring public interest organization before applying for a Fellowship. Selection is based not only on the qualifications of the applicant, but also the demonstrated effectiveness of the sponsoring organization.

Each year, the firm receives a large number of applicants from which the top 100 are identified based upon each applicant's academic performance, demonstrated commitment to the public interest, and the quality of his or her project. Each of the applicants is interviewed by one or more members of the Advisory Committee and by the foundation director. From this group, 54 semi-finalists are chosen to be presented to the trustees. The trustees, composed of six distinguished persons from outside the firm, two Skadden, Arps partners and two counsels and a second-year Fellow, meet in early December and make the final selection of the Skadden Fellows.

Application due date is October 1, 2012.
