Check out Historical Statistics of the U.S. This compendium, produced by the Census Bureau since 1790, includes statistics on population, migration, poverty, nonprofit organizations, slavery, and Native Americans. It's now a part of the University of Minnesota Libraries' collection. Data sets are ready to be downloaded into Excel, CSV, or groups of tables as a zip file.
