But the National Archives' multimedia "Eyewitness" exhibit helpfully whittles the collection down to a few dozen original letters, diaries, and recordings documenting eyewitness views on major crises at home and abroad—covering everything from General George Washington's fear of bioterrorism during the American Revolution to George H.W. Bush's firsthand account of Richard Nixon's last hours in the White House.
It's all pretty fascinating, especially the audio recordings, but be advised that some of the content is of a violent or upsetting nature. "
