Chapter 9

This chapter is about the popular culture in intercultural communication. The popular culture serves as a bridge between the native resident of a culture and its exotic member residents. For example, when I get to hang out with people from all over the world, the common topic will be the popular tv show, sports events, Hollywood stars, famous singers etc.
The popular culture in the US is extremely powerful and it permeates not only into everywhere in the US, but also around the world. For example, before I came to the US, I have already familiar with many Hollywood stars, NBA stars, several TV shows etc. So in the US, it is easier for foreigners to get used to the US culture. The American values and spirits are embedded in the popular culture. Foreigners who are familiar with such popular culture are more adapted to the US environment
