Breaking the Rules

Today I decided it was nice enough outside to warrant breaking my rule that prohibits running two days in a row.

Stone Arch Bridge

I'm starting to update my routes on mapmyrun.com. Since the 35W bridge collapse, I've had to alter my route because I used to run under the bridge both coming and going from campus. Now that the river road and 2nd Ave. SE are closed until the bridge is rebuilt, my routes to the riverfront and back have lengthened by almost a 1/2-mile.

Run stats:

  • 3.78 mi.

10th. Ave. Bridge

The 10th Avenue Bridge crosses the Mississippi River directly adjacent to where the 35W bridge used to be. For several weeks after its collapse last summer, the bridge was closed to the public. It reopened about one month ago, and I now run across it occasionally when I want a shorter route or want to run midday but need to keep it quick.

65 and Sunny

Of course, with weather like this, it seems like everyone was out! I actually encountered congestion on the Minnehaha Creek path today (esp. in areas where cyclists and walkers share the path). But other than that, a great day to run.

On the waterfront

SEATTLE - Our hotel is not far from the bay, along which is a linear park with paved paths, so today was a most pleasant vacation run. I ran north from downtown and turned around at a pier where a Chinese ship was being loaded with grain.

I don't know my exact distance here, but am guessing it's around what I normally run on weekdays based on time. (my Polar watch system is low on batteries, otherwise I would have brought it along so that I could have measured).

Run stats:

Back on the Pavement

After not logging in runs here for a while (as well as not running for ~2 weeks while sick), I'm back on the pavement and back in the blog. I hope to also add recent runs and try to catch up; I also missed recording a few runs in late August.

Today's run (in a steady rain) was down University Ave., across the Stone Arch Bridge, back to Gold Medal Park, around to Washington Ave., and circling back to campus via the other old train bridge behind the new College of Education building that is being renovated on the riverfront. I can't wait until that opens--- it will have a cafe and coffeeshop overlooking the Mississippi River.

Run stats:

  • 3.9 mi.
  • 36:00
  • 9:13 min./mi.
  • 474 calories
