The Cold Heat of Spring in Minnesota

Very sunny, but with a crisp, quite cold breeze. Oh well, I'll take the sun.

Just realized that I've been using the wrong Stone Arch route this spring for data calculations; since the 35W bridge collapse last August, my route is really 3.9 miles (versus 3.78— the first route I drew was quick and sloppy). Probably not enough of a difference to go back and revise those entries, though...

Run stats:

  • 42°F
  • 3.9 mi.
  • 33:13
  • 8:31 min./mi.

17 Miles

Another wintery run in April. Obviously, my complaining to the weather gods about running in too much heat and humidity during the past two years has paid off in spades...and then some!

Eric joined me at about mile 5.5 and we continued to the end together. Thanks Eric— I know I could not have ran a sub-10 min./mi. pace for 17 miles on my own!

Run stats:

  • 40°F
  • 17.0 mi.
  • 2:43:00
  • 9:35 min./mi.

Keeping Pace

Nice to see my pace closer to 9 minute miles than 10 on good days like today. Makes me more hopeful that I can finish my marathon in under 4:30!

Run stats:

  • 70°F
  • 3.78 mi.
  • 34:10
  • 9:03 min./mi.

Making Up Some Miles

Didn't quite hit 15 miles yesterday like I should have, so instead of taking a day off I ran today. Apparently the mileage from two back-to-back days is about the same as running it all at once.

If that's true, my long-run just went up to 16.1 miles.

Run stats:

  • 68°F
  • 2.41 mi.
  • 23:00
  • 9:33 min./mi.
  • 296 calories

Adding Miles, Getting Some Sun

Today Eric and I hit the sweet spot of the weekend, running during a 4-5 hour sunny patch on Sunday afternoon. The temps didn't quite hit the projected 70°, but it was probably close.

I also did not quite hit 15 miles either, but that's okay— it was a thoroughly enjoyable run, and sometimes that's more important than a longer but more miserable run.

Run stats:

  • 65°F
  • 13.69 mi.
  • 2:15:00
  • 9:52 min./mi.
  • 1740 calories

Real Spring Running!

Whoa...might spring really be here? Felt so great to resume lunchtime runs outdoors, and off the treadmill! Celebrated by using my favorite route in town, across the Stone Arch Bridge. Fabulous.

  • 50°F
  • 3.78 mi.
  • 36:00
  • 9:32 min./mi.

Winter Run...in April

Ran in the tail-end of a winter storm that apparently got lost along the way to MN, and ended up arriving several weeks late.

The good news: it certainly wasn't too hot like some early spring runs can be.

And really, there was little snow on the ground. But some icy spots on pavement and concrete to watch out for. Walking on them was worse than running on them. My only brush with injury: I slipped and started to fall near the Lake Harriet Band Shell during a walk break, just as another runner was passing me who quickly grabbed my arm and helped steady me.

Thanks Mr. Anonymous runner--- that was very nice!

Run stats:

  • 30°F
  • 12.72 mi.

Getting Back in the Game

Between being sick and then on vacation (actually, they overlapped), I didn't run for a week. Easing back in today! Felt surprisingly good--- I guess my body needed to move again.

Run stats:

  • 2.0 mi.
  • 17:39
  • 8:50 min./mi.
  • 240 calories
  • Miles to date: 126.25
