Post-Canoe trip Run

Had a few days off from running, though I replaced it with paddling.

Too hot to run outside today, so I stayed in the Rec Ctr and used a treadmill. Boo.

Run stats:

  • 89°F
  • 2.0 mi.
  • 17:14
  • 8:34 min./mi.
  • 232 calories
  • Miles to date: 408.24

Hot!

Well, sometimes I realize just how much I'm hooked on running when I run on a day like this.

Though the breezes made it bearable and even enjoyable at times, but it was blazing hot.

Still, a good little route. I like the trails near Kent and Marilyn's place. Fun.

Run stats:

  • 85°F
  • 3.1 mi.
  • 27:00
  • 8:42 min./mi.
  • 364 calories

I'm in!

Just found out that I won the lottery! The Twin Cities 10-mile entry lottery.

Race time: 7:13 a.m.

400

I got up early and went running in the morning for a change, because with meetings midday it wasn't going to be a good day to run later.

Why don't I do this more often? It was great, though with the cooler temps comes stickier air, so the sweat quotient is about the same. Still, definitely better than running in 80°.

Run stats:

  • 69°F
  • 3.54 mi.
  • 29:51
  • 8:26 min./mi.
  • 437 calories

Almost 400 miles

It was so darn hot today, I actually ran inside on the treadmill. Yeah, that hot.

And wow, if I had known I was this close to 400, I would have ran the extra 0.4!

Run stats:

  • 90°F
  • 3.0 mi.
  • 25:50
  • 8:37 min./mi.
  • 348 calories
  • Miles to date: 399.6

Running with the Riders

Not that I can take complete credit for it, but I happened to time this morning's run perfectly with the race leaders cycling around Lake Harriet as part of the Lifetime Fitness triathlon. Very cool to see them fly by on their amazing equipment. And fun to have them swing through, only a mile from our house. Several people breakfasting in their yards got to see the action front and center; that must have been a treat.

If I had only had my phone with me today, I might have even gotten a decent photo or two.

Run stats:

  • 65°F
  • 3.54 mi.
  • 30:52
  • 8:43 min./mi.
  • 416 calories

Getting Back to Respectable Mileage

Wow, today I felt kinda slow...but I guess it wasn't too embarrassing of a pace.

It felt good to be back on my Stone Arch Bridge route, though the Red Bull "art exhibit" that took up one third of the bridge is complete bullsh*t. I have to wonder...would the city allow a corporation to take up one third of a stretch of interstate highway, and force all of the cars into one lane, to make room for an "artistic" marketing campaign?

No, but that's what has happened to one of our prime pedestrian byways this week. Heck, I thought the bridge was quite beautiful without the art.

Run stats:

  • 80°F
  • 3.9 mi.
  • 34:50
  • 8:56 min./mi.
  • 469 calories
  • Miles to date: 393.06

My Week Off is Over

0707.jpg

A week of recuperation after eye surgery made me pretty restless. So it sure felt fabulous to run again!

Note in the photo above that the northbound side of the new 35W bridge is ready to be joined by a final cast-in-place segment. Though I see that the sides aren't quite lined up— they're off by 6-12". I know that they plan to jack the two halves apart, pour the concrete, and thus tension is created to help hold the bridge up. Does this mean the jacks can correct this discrepancy in alignment, too?

If not, I'm guessing the project manager and/or engineer for this project is having a really bad week. =(

Run stats:

  • 81°F
  • 2.41 mi.
  • 21:20
  • 8:51 min./mi.
  • 288 calories

To Beat the Heat, Learn to Sweat It Out

An article about running in the heat. Apropos of my experience of running marathons in sultry conditions, particularly the first two.
