Try BrowZine! It is an app that allows you to browse, read and monitor some of the library's best journals, all from your iPad.  Built to accompany your searching needs, items found in BrowZine can easily be synced up with Zotero, Dropbox or several other services to help keep all of your information together in one place.

To get started, search for "BrowZine" in the iTunes App Store and download the app for free; when initially launching BrowZine, select University of Minnesota from the drop down list.
This service will continue to expand and add new titles and features as time goes on.

Look at the top billing for the Undergrad Update!

This "interactive photo" is a unique learning object--I think it is very effective with the short videos with the photo being the navigation: http://giving.umn.edu/extras/UniversityArchives/

It would be interesting to give a "tour" of one of the databases this way--e.g. here is how you put your search into the box, here are subject headings and why you use them, etc.

Or to show an article and paper and give the back story of the research or citations.

Can I Find it Again?: Difficulties First Year Students Face When Managing Their Digital Stuff

As we collect and produce a variety of digital materials, organizing and self-archiving them becomes a growing challenge. To better understand how the University Library can support these needs, we asked 500 first-year students during Welcome Week 2012 how they perceive their personal digital needs. They revealed concern about managing music, photos, digital notes, e-books and videos.

The survey results will help inform resources for managing a person's digital life, including photos, music, video, e-mail, digital notes, and e-books. The group plans to address the needs of the entire University community, in addition to first-year students, by building online resources and providing outreach/in-person opportunities for members of the University community to better enable them to manage personal collections that are growing in size and complexity.

Our University president has called on us to consider ways we can enhance our operational excellence by saving time and money while adding efficiency on all levels. This poster will present ways that we can add to people's personal efficiency by guiding them to both tools and practices to assist in organizing their digital lives.

Logo.jpgSave the Date: Minnesota Digital Humanities Symposium

Have you been following developments in digital humanities? Are you ready to take the plunge and develop new projects? Would you like to take your digital humanities projects to the next level? Then, mark your calendars.

The University of Minnesota Libraries and Macalester College DeWitt Wallace Library are hosting a Minnesota Digital Humanities Symposium May 14-15, 2013. This research retreat will offer inspiring examples of digital humanities scholarship, provide an opportunity to discuss tools and issues at the heart of the research, and allow you to network with potential research partners.

This symposium is aimed at scholars (faculty and graduate students) from humanities and computer science fields, academic technologists, programmers, research consultants, and other academic support staff from Minnesota.

The symposium will open on May 14 with a reception and talk from Lev Manovich (CUNY; http://www.manovich.net/). The following symposium day, May 15, takes place at the St. Paul Continuing Education and Conference Center and features plenary addresses by Matt Jockers (Nebraska; http://www.matthewjockers.net/) and Mark Tebeau (Cleveland State; http://marktebeau.com/).

Registration will open by March 15, 2013. Stay tuned for further details.
