ResearchNinja.jpg

We have been using this small QR code affixed to the Libraries map as an attention grabber with students during a variety of Orientation events. There has been a positive response--we explain that students can get help from the "Research Ninja's" throughout the Libraries and the QR codes takes students to the Libraries homepage/mobile page if scanned with their smartphones.

stss.jpgCool an active learning conference in an active learning space...

"The purpose of the forum is to advance practice and research on active learning spaces in areas such as pedagogical innovation, student learning assessment, and faculty support."

Anyone going?
NancySimms.jpgSeems like we need to post a little something about about Nancy's article in the Chronicle from a while back...(I don't think we did at the time...)

Seems like a great example of teaching/learning all wrapped up in the national higher ed press...

Two ideas for support first year students....

2. Welcome Week

How can we be indispensable to students? To campus? I have volunteered for Convocation for the last couple of years and enjoyed it very much--generally I have been holding a sign for a specific college or directing students around Mariucci...and them I have enjoyed hearing the band and listening to speeches (but often you can go when you need to)....

Volunteers are needed to assist with several elements of the Welcome Week 2011 program. Join us in making the University of Minnesota a warm and friendly place for new students. A few hours of your time could have a tremendous impact.

Opportunities include:

  • Residence Hall Move-In (Aug. 29-31)
Greet students and parents, guard belongings, or help with traffic flow.
  • New Student Convocation (Sept. 1)
This campus tradition kicks off the first morning of Welcome Week. All first-year students are required to attend. We need greeters, section guides, and direction providers.
  • Class of 2015 Cookout (Sept. 2)
We need food servers, line managers, direction providers, and greeters.
Specific details for all volunteer opportunities can be found at (you will need to log in with your U of M Internet ID): https://www.ofyp.umn.edu/forms/form.php?id=6
