The Minnesota Coalition for Battered Women released its annual Femicide Report for 2012, which showed the lowest number of deaths due to domestic violence in the past 20 years, reported the Star Tribune.
Reports show that 14 women, one man and three friends or family members were killed in 2012, due to a domestic violence situation, said The Pioneer Press.
On Tuesday the Coalition organized a tribute to the 18 victims of domestic violence that died in 2012. The Coalition hung 18 decorated T-shirts from clotheslines, in memory of each victim.
Improved intervention strategies for victims and offenders and advocacy groups, like the Minnesota Coalition of Battered Women, are believed to have helped lower the amount of domestic violence situations in 2012, said the Star Tribune.
