I read your memo to the next transportation sec and while i am sure you are emphasizing broad principles i think it is critical that data collection be an integral part of the entire endeavor. Hopefully the next transportation sec and DOT admin understands the importance of good data and we can revive data collection efforts like the VIUS and ensure that programs such as the NHTS are not scrambling for funds. Hopefully these efforts are codified into practice and we do not live with the uncertainty that a particular data collection effort will happen or not.
