The question is why it happened on July 4th. Was it a coincidence or due to a superbly large workload for the system?

I think I recall reading that the crash happened at around 2:00 a.m., which would probably not indicate exceptionally high load factors (unless people stuck around after the fireworks to party and drink, then left at 2:00). It was probably a coincidence.
